The Conjuring Universe - Timeline

I've got some thoughts on the short films.
The Nurse
2017?

The Confession
1975-1976. If I had to choose an exact year, 1975 is the most mid-70s.

What's Wrong With Mom?
1970s, because the Warrens are referenced. Maybe post-The Conjuring 2. It released one year later, so uh... 1978?

Blund's Lullaby
Those toothbrushes look VERY modern. I would just say 2017 personally.

Innocent Souls
There's no information, I'd just say 2017.

All years are technically speculation, but:
1975 - The Confession
1978 - What's Wrong With Mom?
2017 - The Nurse
2017 - Blund's Lullaby
2017 - Innocent Souls

I'm happy you brought that up because I was about to run through those next! I think at the time I was placing them in the past to be alongside the movies but I'm open to them being in the present.

The Confession
Just reading the comments again and the creator's intent is for it to be more timeless but also with a 70s aesthetic. Just noticed they're reading the book 'Mysteries of the Unexplained' (first edition) which was first published in 1982 or 1985 but that could be ignored. It is very clearly the 1970s.

What's Wrong With Mom?
I think I placed it in the 60s before just to show more of the Warrens in their prime but it's got much more of a 70s feel so i'm happy with 1978. Not too relevant but I like to headcanon this is where the Warrens went in Annabelle Comes Home.

Blund's Lullaby
You're right about the toothbrushes lol, there's also the Willy the Kid book first published in 1976 so really anytime after then. Also looks like a more modern light switch toward the end.

Innocent Souls
I think before I was leaning somewhere around the 1980s to be close to the movies and the fact they're using flashlights and lighters instead of iPhones but the clothes look more modern, could go anywhere really. I'm happy with placing it in the present.

I need to watch Vice Versa and Caged. A friend told me that, while Caged sucks, it fits in pretty well and doesn't contradict anything. Obviously it doesn't have any creative BTS connection, just a shared actor, so it depends on how much weight you put on that. Personally, I do consider, say, Punisher: Dirty Laundry canon, so I guess I'd count Caged.

Why wouldn't Dirty Laundry be canon?

There's also two Annabelle quarantine videos, but they probably don't count unfortunately.
Those shorts can be bullshited in, but they better work in their own reality where Annabelle is an "actress" living in the New Line Cinema office being bored while on quarantineand admiring her work on TCU and kinda missing being in spot light. anyway her feelings is just my interpretation. crazy we waited a year for the sequel to it (the first one literally ends on to be continued. ah remember when it got released XD)

Same deal as Caged. The connection is DEFINITELY intentional. Having the same actor play a new character with the same name and the same personality, it's got to be made with the intention to be a relative even if we can't prove it. They're both religious and that's important.

Of course, since The Conjuring is an in-universe movie in our world, with our con-artist Warrens, it stands to reason it's an in-universe movie in their world, with their demon-fighting Warrens.

edited my previous message.
But yeah, I still stand it works better as its own universe. Kinda like Wes Craven's New Nigtmare
