Ultimate Secret #3 (Spoilers)

We'l have Loeb/Mad on Ultimates (Which I hope is good), Singer/McNiven on UXM(Ditto), Millar/Land on UFF and Bendis/Bagely on USM. It seems to be good on paper. I have high hopes for Wolverine vs Hulk ('Cause Lost is great), Invasion and Extinction (Which better be good!), as well. I just think we're in a lull right now. It should get better.

Loeb/Mad is shocking. Singer has yet to prove himself, but under the guidance of Vaughan I hope he can do well, and mcNiven, yay.
Millar's FF isn't really that good in my eyes, I'm not keen on Land's art either really, makes Sue look like a porn actress. And Bendis/Bagley.. I was sick of this pairing 50 issues ago. Right now is a low point in the Ultimate line, but I'm sure it will pick up.

I thought I read Vaughan WASN'T going to be involved with Singer's run, despite earlier reports. I'm almost positive BKV himself mentioned after Magnetic North, he'd be totally done with UXM.
Arse, I hope not. I'd not read that.

See, I liked this issue. And it brings to mind something we learned in Latin/Greek Class at school: This is like an ancient drama, where we know what will happen, and we get to see all these events unfold, and as they unfold, we see things happen where we're like, o boy, they don't even know how bad its going to turn out. Case in point: They're all having a good time, thinking its just another alien threat (the chituari had a doomsday weapon to destroy the galaxy, too, and galacuts has only destroyed species with low tech capabilities). We know that even though they are joking, it is all going to get very serious, VERY quickly. And they don't know about just HOW bad galactus is, because only one person in the area knows: Rgg. And he's a Kree. So, they're all cheery, they're going to find out what's up, but we know, they're in for a load of trouble.

Just how i see it. And because of this, I liked the issue (except for Thor ending every line with "Beer").

What exactly happened this issue?

I told you guys I thought the dialogue was complete **** when the preview was released. They're pissin' me off so badly over there. Galactus is supposed to be this big threat and now I feel like I don't have to pick it up at all.

Ellis isn't assigned characterizations. We know who these characters are! Get on with the ****in' story!

And anyone who thinks... "oh, it's ok that they're joking around." That's pretty wrong. Because it'd be acceptable if it was a form of denial but that's not the case at all right here.

So far I'm not looking forward to reading any of the comics that came out today :( Xept Daredevil which NOBODY gets!

And the downfall of the ultimate universe has it's own thread.

Regarding the candid banter between the Ultimates and the FF, I don't know. I don't see that even though there is great threat over their heads, doesn't automatically mean they should be sulking and crying and thinking "OMG, we're all gonna die!". Human tendency when he knows that there's a possibility of imminent death would have to be enjoying the ride while it lasts. Add the slight upgrade of egos by the Ultimates for having beaten down an entire alien invasion, the fact that Gah Lak Tus has yet to be seen, and the celebrity geekfest the UFF feels since they're personally meeting the Ultimates themselves and you have one hell of a meeting.

Irish hit the nail on the head. The jokey overtones were completely out of place...it doesn't fit at all with the first two issues, which were brilliant. The beer stuff waaaaay overplayed too.

And it didn't help that the art was bad. Sorry to say it. Waaaaaaaay too dramatic of a change from McNiven. There had to be a better choice.

That said, I do agree with Guij in trusting Ellis. Nightmare was great and the first 2 issues of Secret were too...I don't agree that he can't do 15 straight isues of doom and gloom, but I think this is forgivable.

2.5/5

By the way - one thing I noticed that bothered me (I didn't see anyone else mention it) - they make it a point to tell us that this occurs BEFORE Ultimates 2...but in the issue Widow refers to Tony as her fiance.

Yes, I think DiB said that before.

Eh, the issues dialogue wasn't the best, but I think their attitudes they have right now fit. For anyone who read Authority, and to cite a similar storyline from the same author, remember how Apollo and the Engineer were joking around and landing on the moon before they took off to scope out God and found out HOW big of trouble they were in for? Admittedly, the dialogue was better, but still, the heroes joking around, in good spirits before the **** hits the fan is a standard sci-fi/adventure cliche. They probably kinda understand what their dealing with but they're the heroes so they figure, "hey, we can win, big deal." The full impact of it will hit them next issue when they lay eye on it. A swarm of godbugs destroying all life on a world is kinda something that you have to SEE to really believe. I know I would.

Maybe Ellis is just having 'issue 3' difficulties, issue 3 of Nightmare was pretty crappy too imo.

Issue 3 Dysfunction...I think they make a pill for that.

how does this issue end???

Reed, Sue, Iron Man, Mahr Vehl in Asus 2, headed for the Kree ship.

Ben, Johnny, Fury, Widow, Hawkeye, and a ton of soldiers on the ground ready to take on the killforms.

I'll give it a 3/5

The direction was great the story was perfect for leading us into what to expect out of next issue.

Terrible characterization. Tony and Reed aren't just geniuses, they're turned into supernerds. Carol is uptight and does nothing. Wish there's more progression on the Carol/Mar-vell. Too much cracks about Sue. This isn't even The Ultimate Tony we like...

I mean what the **** is going on?! I read two Ultimate titles with Ultimate Tony Stark and neither of them compare to Millar's work.

Thor sucks as pointed out.... BEER!!! I was going to get Keg's for the kids but we're all gonna be blown up tomorrow. What?

I dunno what I liked about this I know The whole plan they had was good but this really irked me.

3-/5

The know Gah Lak Tus is probably responsible for the extermination of most life in the galaxy. So I'd say they have a pretty good idea. You did read the part where Fury was breifing them all on it right?

Exactly my point. This issue was fun and all with the joking, but its out of place here. The first two issues were good, especially the second one as Marvell's humor was somewhat called for during the interrogation. But for the humans, they should be ****ting themselves. Just didn't work well in my opinion, all the jokes and talking about beer.
