I know that but regular 80s cars didn't exist in the Watchmen universe why wouldn't they carry on the car designs into 2019 unless it's a Fallout situation where they used real life cars in the show but in the games they are fictional

Is it a 1:1 comic adaptation?

So I watched and I wouldn't personally use it as background for the TV show unless I can't be bothered reading the comic

They explicitly said the comic was canon to the show and there's more than enough deviations to disqualify it, especially part 2.

Is good tho, don't understand the hate I've seen for it on socials

Top of my head:

The scene where Hollis comes by knowing about the tenement fire save should be one of the detectives from Blake's murder who warns him to leave his return at that.

The cops come pretty soon after when they shouldn't come back until after the prison break

Actually the whole bit where Nite Owl threatens to blow up the block to the guys in the bar when he finds out Hollis is dead isn't in it at all and he just freaks out extra hard at Rorschach in the 'sorry I'm a bad friend' scene when he finds out then instead

A lot of info and lines from the supplemental material is crammed into scenes

The psychiatric interview scene was compressed

There's some more but you get my point. Most of the changes were clearly just for pacing purposes for a two parter and adapting to a different medium but it results in enough deviations from the comic to not be called canon to the show

However I enjoyed it like I do most of these adaptations and it's serviceable if you or someone else can't be bothered reading the comic but want something more accurate than the Snyder movie before watching the series, because it is pretty faithful

I'd agree if we had anyone from the show saying this was canon but they were pretty clear that it was a direct continuation of the comic

Ultimately the most important factor is if it'd fit in this timeline and the condensing and whatnot will make it pretty impossible to with the flashbacks in the show set during the events of the comic like the looking glass origin or Oz's daughters conception

Then there's the people who made the two parter already volunteering for a doomsday clock or before Watchmen adaptation, both of which would definitely conflict with show canon, so I think it's better just to take this simply as an entry into the animated multiverse

been going through the show again, this excerpt from peteypedia implies that for a time after dr manhattan leaves earth in 1985 cars had to go back to being gas powered, more in line with real-world designs, before around 2008 when trieu replicated manhattans synthetic lithium, allowing for the creation of electric models of these closer to realistic cars

I do like the idea that Taxi Driver could exist in the Watchmen reality. Very much not something either Moore or Scorsese would agree with, but, well, either way, I think it's kinda cool.
