Didn't read the series, but the premise is interesting. How old is the son supposed to be? I'd like to hope at least for the movie they make at least 17 years-old.

I think he was around 21, but it's been a while since I read it.

He's probably mid-20s...he is already out of college and working a full-time job.

I thought Millar said they were getting Eminem for this?

:p

He wanted Eminem for the role, but I think Eminem declined.

Here's the official synopsis:

Based upon Mark Millar's explosive graphic novel series and helmed by the stunning visualist director Timur Bekmambetov--creator of the most successful Russian film franchise in history, the "Night Watch" series--"Wanted" tells the story of one invisible drone's transformation into a dark avenger. In 2008, the world will be introduced to a superhero for a new millennium: Wesley Gibson.

25-year-old account manager Wes (James McAvoy) was the most pathetic, cube-dwelling hypochondriac the planet had ever known. His boss chewed him out hourly, his girlfriend cheated on him daily and his life plodded on interminably. Everyone was certain this weakling would never amount to anything. There was little else for Wes to do but wile away the days and die a slow, clock-punching death.

Until he became Wanted.

After the murder of a father he never knew, Wes discovers powers beyond his dreams. He becomes the latest recruit in the Fraternity--a secret society of assassins--and develops lightning-quick reflexes with superhuman agility. Wes soon learns his league of henchmen has but one mission: carry out the death orders of the mythological Fates, weavers of every man's lifeline.

With wickedly brilliant tutors, he morphs into a killing machine and starts erasing one bad guy after another. But as Wes grows into the mantle passed down by his father...he discovers his clan members are not exactly the enforcers of justice they claim to be. Just as he gets everything he ever Wanted, Wesley Gibson will learn that with the ability to deliver death comes an even more difficult power...controlling your own life.

Bleh. He's a superhero now? That defeats the whole purpose of the supervillains ruling the world...

And I don't even want to start about the mythological fate thing. Even Millar says he's worried about that.

This is going to be crap.

Yeah, quite a departure. I wonder why they wouldn't want to make a villain movie.

Or why bother calling it "Wanted" if it's not "Wanted"?

Exactly. And because it's so different don't even bother listing it in the credits that it's "Based on the Graphic Novel 'Wanted' by Mark Millar".

Just have the director/writer mention the fact that they got a lot of ideas for this from the book on the DVD commentary.

Come on people, are you really surprised? Did you honestly think that even in today's 'open-minded' climate, that they would allow this to be anything like the source material?

Damn 'they'.

I dunno about the overly graphic nature but the overall plotline seems like it should work fine. Guy finds out dad was a super-villain, guy steps up, kicks some ***. Just make sure all the Villians you use are easily recognizable. Joker, Lex Luthor, Magneto. That kinda level and there shouldn't be a problem.

:(

hey actually mcavoy was on bbc radio 1 today and he was asked about upcoming movies. he mentioned "wanted" but im pretty sure he said something like "yeah its some sci fi thing". has he even read it? surely he woulda mentioned it was from a comic book. he didnt mention the comic book once

To be fair it kind of implies that he only THINKS he's a superhero.

It still sounds like crud, though.

Wanted creator Mark Millar visited the Prague set of Universal's big screen adaptation of his graphic novel series and has posted comments about the trip on his official website. He talks about the sets, the director and the cast. Starring James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie, the film hits theaters on March 28.

Here is his thoughts on it all , http://forums.millarworld.tv/index.php?showtopic=71517

So Millar is okay with them treating his material like this? ANGELINA JOLIE as Fox? What? The only woman who can play Fox is Halle Berry, and she isn't going to be in it because she doesn't want to risk being in another comic book movie (after you-know-what). I'm ok with McAvoy as Wesley. And Morgan Freeman is playing some guy named Sloan?....(I don't remember him from the comic....)

They're probably going to change a bunch of characters like Mr. Rictus and stuff. This is going to suck so bad. Maybe the Wanted movie would have gotten critical praise for its originality if it hadn't been changed to a hero story. But now that it HAS been changed, and the filmmakers are trying to make it just like every other comic book movie these days, that'll never happen. It's so sad to see this whole thing go to ****.

I saw a few set pics from this with Jolie "fighting" on top of a car.

The synopsis still pisses me off so much that I want to boycott this.......but I know Plain Jane will drag me to this since her taste in movies is comparitive to a 16 year old boy's.

Also, Angelina Jolie looks like a 60 year old woman in this. It looks terrible.
