Ultimate Ronin! NO, REALLY!

To be fair, if I were BMB and I was writing a story and it called for a character I had already introduced to have a reason to hunt down Spider-man in public without giving up my secret identity, I would need a good costume.

Bendis probably figures if he's going to have a mysterious character in costume with a big reveal at the end of the arc on who it is, people are going to complain, "That's just like Ronin!" anyway, so he might as well use a character that comes attached with sign: "This character only exists as a secret identity, the fun in this comic will be guessing who it might be!"

does anybody get the feeling that the roster of "the knights" or whatever will be eeriley similar to the (new)NA?

anywho i only have one word to describe the decision to ultimize ronin:
Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

and i was hoping that USM was going to turn around  how foolish, the only way i can think of that would make this seem cool would be to have Ronin be Shang Chi, masking himself so he doesn't get recognized by someone who would tip off his father as to his whereabout's (but this would never happen because bendis has forgotten about everything he wrote before ultimate carnage)

I'm waiting for the arc where Peter Parker's running for student council president against Maria Hill. How will Peter be able to campaign successfully when he uncovers the dirt of the Ultimate Illuminati...which is run by vampires.

O for ****'s sake!

Come on!

I like Ronin. I was hoping that at some point he/she would be ultimized......but not in USM. I was at least hoping for Ronin to appear in Ultimates.

But now I guess the character will suck.

I really hate to be pessimistic about this----but to be fair....Bendis hasn't given me reason not to.

I'm impartial about this. So what if he introduces his OWN character a year later in USM. He did MJGoblin and Gwencarnage, remember? Not much left to ruin after that; wait, I take that back. I SWEAR I DIDN'T SAY THAT!

But here's a possibility: We think it might be Shang-Chi because of his costume. BUt what if it's someone related to him? Older brother/cousin? Becuase if that's what's happening, then here comes Ultimate Hand.

And now that I think about it, that might (though in reality it will) not be that bad. If Ult. Elektra works for the Hand, as does Ronin, then what are the chances they'll be going against Kingpin?
It's like Warriors on a bigger scale. Ult.Knights vs Kingpin vs Ult.Hand.

And I thought Warriors was an ok arc too.

Also, why is it that Spidey's on the ground yet again?!?
He was laying with Daredevil above him, the next iss will probably have Kingpin over him    and now Ronin.

IS THIS Bendi's way of showing us Peter's only a kid still? He has SUPERPOWERS, and he's beaten down by everyone.

But my interest is piqued for Ultimate Knights.

I agree...I know that you can't make Spider-man into a Sentry or Superman...but why the hell does he need to have the crap kicked out of him in every issue?? What especially annoys me is the way that Elektra slaps him around. For god's sake, Ultimate Elektra is just some chick who knows martial arts.

I like it. This is a pretty big **** you to everyone who thinks that fairly new concepts in 616 can't be ultimized. If he plays a decent part in the story (I get the feeling it's gonna be Ultimate Omega Red all over again  ) than I'll be satisfied.

Bendis handled this one already. Elektra is one of the most skilled assasins in the world and Peter Parker is literally a kid with superpowers.

Speaking of... what if Elektra is Ultimate Ronin? Working against Kingpin to get closer to Daredevil/Matt Murdock.

:sure: No? Daredevil, Moon Knight aren't even rumored to be on New Avengers...

Well, covers of comics almost always have the main character being beaten down, because even though the readers already know it, advertising "Yeah, he wins again. It's a pretty generic fight scene, too" on the cover is a bad idea.

One of the good things about USM is that he might actually lose. When he loses fights or consistently got the crap kicked out of him, it's (in my opinion) a good thing, because it's realistic and added tension. I liked in the very first arc, fighting Hulk!Goblin, that he didn't really win the fight outright. That was interesting. And I liked the fight with the Wild Pack, where he won but got shocked at the end.

So I think it's a good thing that he loses a lot. And besides, he wins some fights. He won against Carnage and Vulture and R.H.I.N.O. What bothers me is that he loses in such lame ways while making an *** out of himself, like in Warriors, and that he hasn't gotten an arc where he came out on top since the first fight with Doc Ock.

I don't have a problem with ultimizing relatively new characters (heck, I'd be a hypocrite - I'm doing a similar thing with Essential X-Men), as long as it makes sense and it works. But Ronin? He/she/it/thing/Xorn hasn't even done anything in 616 yet. There's no need to ultimize Ronin.

But that already happends Ra's has sometimes beaten batmanand so on so its not really original. why do i want to read a comic about a weak superhero?..not to mention the fact that prettty much every one knows who he is.

I mean if there's ever a Civil War in UM and he goes.

''Ladies and gentelmen i have an anoucement to make

*takes mask of*

''Im Peter Parker and ive been spider-man since i was 15 years old.'''

Reporter:''...Serioly though whats your anoucement?''

I think I might have misrepresented my position. I liked that he lost the fights I mentioned, but I think he needs to start winning. Now. He's been a superhero for a year, he's been in dozens of fights and watched everyone he cares about die or become miserable because of him, and he shouldn't still be the obnoxious, rank amateur he was when he started.

And some of the fights are just embarrassing. Like the Elektra fight--yeah, she could beat him, but it wouldn't be so pathetically easy. And when he got shot in the back in Deadpool? God damn it, quit ignoring your spider-sense! He did that in Warriors and Silver Sable, too!

I was speechless when I read this. I didn't think a character could be ultimized after a year of existing in 616. It's too soon... I mean, we don't even know if Ronin's identity in 616. Most likely, it will be two different people. TSK TSK... Bendis, I just don't know what's gotten into. The mainstream has gone too far up your ***...

We do know Ronin's identity in 616. It could be anyone. Ronin isn't a character. It's a concept.

Yes, I know what you mean... And agree with you. Bendis isn't ultimizing a character as much as he is ultimizing a stunt or concept.
