Also, did anyone else notice how Kevin Conroy's "Bruce Wayne persona" disappeared in The New Adventures of Batman? One of the coolest and most hilarious scenes in the DCAU is in 'On Leather Wings' when Batman (who has already been talking to Alfred in a grim, smoky voice) answers the phone in a foppish, high-pitched playboy voice. In TNBA, he's just Batman all the time and his voice isn't even all that grim or smoky anymore.

Yeah, that's another thing I hated. I loved the scenes where Bruce Wayne saves the day but plays it off as an accident.

But you know what I always found funny, every thing I hated about the revamp was made awesome in Batman Beyond. Like Mr. Freeze being a head was ****ing ridiculous in the show, but made for an awesome conclusion to his story. Just shows how you can make great stories without having to change stupid things in the past and keep continuity

I like to regard any and everything to do with Mr Freeze being a Futurama-head in-a-jar as non-canonical to anything.

Except Futurama, maybe.

I think Mike Mignola helped design Mr. Freeze's new costume. And like Herman Von Klempt, he has a disembodied head that is kept in a glass tank.

they did the head in a jar thing so they could continue to use him after Batman: Sub Zero. After his wife gets healed, why would he still be a villain? if his body dies and he can't be with his wife.

It was a decent idea in theory, but you're right, it ended up just being dumb.
 
It wasn't just dumb, it was mean and sad, and completely unecessary because I don't think Freeze appeared in a single Timmverse story after than one half hour episode except for the Batman: Vengeance videogame. Did they really have to have him stay a villain? Couldn't they have just done a different episode?

One of the things that I think stuff like the 90s Spider-Man cartoon had over B:TAS was genuine character growth, changes in relationships and stuff like that. B:TAS could never accept change. It's actually like the Achilles' Heel of the whole Timmverse. It took until Justice League to get proper growth going, and even then, in the last season when the Timmverse was singing its swan song, they still couldn't bear to have Clark reveal his secret to Lois, Green Lantern and Hawkgirl finally reconcile, Batman and Wonder Woman start dating, etc.
 
He showed up in an episode of Batman Beyond which I remember being really good.
 
So, I'm watching BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM and just realised that Batman's theme tune from the 1990 series is not the Danny Elfman theme. It is stylized to sound like it, but it totally isn't.

The theme is so quintessentially Batman I couldn't tell it wasn't.

I love this show.

You have seen the light.

Shirley Walker's theme is far, far better than the Danny Elfman theme from the movies (which was used in the opening credits as well as some of the early episodes, as well as Walker's).

Walker's theme evokes tragedy, triumph, heroism as well as a noir feeling. Elfman's is just a 'weird, badass monster' theme (and believe me, I love Elfman's theme).

I love both. But the annoying this is that Walker's intro is to just a bunch of random clips which winds me the hell up. The music is wonderful, but I hate the visuals to it (not that it's her fault).

Also, BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM has another superb scene - the scene where Bruce Wayne is begging, at the grave of his parents, for them to let him off his promise to be Batman because he never thought he would be happy. Second best Batman story ever. (Curse you, THE DARK KNIGHT! Stealing all my love!)

I love that part too. Even though it seems a bit overly dramatic, still handled very well.
 
I don't like that Walker theme at all. However i LOVE the Elfman one.

Sorry it just didn't work for me it felt too bland compared with the previous one.
 
I don't think I ever realised it before, but 'Nothing to Fear' is a damn fine episode of Batman. There are just so many unforgettable moments in it and it's the first episode that really delved into Batman's mind as well as the mind of the villain. It's no wonder they referenced it so much in Batman Begins.

Also, it has the most memorable of Conroy's lines in all of the DCAU.
