All Star Superman to be adapted for DC Animated Movie

This is awesome, and if it is faithful to the series it will be my new favorite movie ever.

But why on earth would they get Dwayne McDuffie involved?

It needs to be bright and colourful and magical.

I wonder how close the animation will be to Quietly's art.

Preferably EXACTLY like Quitely's from the series, but I think it'll be more along the lines of the Batman - The Animated Series / DC Animated Universe look, perhaps with some leanings towards Quietly's style.

It'd be great if it looked just like the comics, but thats probably hoping for too much.

You are.

Please stop it or I'll never get the stains out of my clothes.

This is why I love you.

Though apparently not as much as nigma.

I'd love that, but I'd guess it would be expensive to animate, yeah? ;) Shame Disney didn't buy DC.

At the Con panel, they mentioned that the DC animated films all clock in at about 70 minutes because animation is just so cost prohibitive. I'll be curious to see how it all turns out in terms of fitting All-Star into an hour and in terms of the animation.

I found New Frontier kind of disappointing for the two reasons above. I'm curious to see if Dwayne McDuffie can make some magic happen.

Thank you. Thank you.

I'm very cautious about this. I have trouble seeing how they're going to adapt this into anything coherent.

And there's no way they can transfer the art into animation without spending millions (and years) on it.

Jesus Christ. The comments section of that article is frothing with people who are SO PISSED OFF because (apparently?) All-Star Superman doesn't deserve to be made into a film.

But one dude suggested Gene Wilder as Leo Quantum. That's awesome.

I liked how one dude called it flawless but said it was far too recent to be called one of the greatest stories in comics history.

That's such a stupid thought. I mean if you can tell from reading a comic book, especially in today's lackluster turnout from the big two, that its changed the game then it can still be a classic.

I think Quietly's art should be adapted as closely as possible, he's in my opinion the quintessential comic book artist of the modern era. Followed closely by JH WIlliams and Bryan Hitch.

Well to be honest, I don't really think it does, either. The story isn't that impressive and the action is actually fairly low-key. What makes All-Star so special is the near-definitive characterisation and the art and some standalone issues (like #10) that are sublime.

There are Superman stories that would lend themselves to an animated adaptation far better than this one would, even if they aren't as highly regarded. Last Son by Johns and Donner is one and Red Son by Millar is another. Oh, and you know...Birthright.

Gene Wilder would be pretty good as Quintum (he's certainly the most obvious choice), but I wouldn't be adverse to seeing Martin Shortt playing him, or a character voice-actor like Frank Welker.
