Couldn't find a thread for this, and since this abomination is actually happening, here we go. For those unaware, this December, the Spider-Man musical will be opening on Broadway, with music by Bono and the Edge of U2, and directed by Julie Taymor, who is famous for her creative but bizarre visual style.

There was a story about it on Good Morning America today, with a performance of one of the songs. This thing is going to be a trainwreck of mammoth proportions. I HAVE to see it, if only to say I was one of the few who did before it got laughed out of town in a month.

You can see the song performance and some designs of the villains at this link-

Topless Robot: The Spider-Man musical will be worse than you could possibly imagine

Not really sure where else I can put this.

In spite of how crazy and garish this looks, I think I really want to see it. I hope I get a chance to, somehow.

I want to see it, but then again I love musicals. but yeah, this does have the potential to crash and burn.

Incidentally, I'm taking a college course in theater apprechiation. My last class had us spend a good chunk of time disccussing this.

It looks interesting. The music is great. I liked how the Goblin looked. I wish I lived in New York.

Re: Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark (Discussion Thread)

It sounds terrible, and all the reviews pretty much verify that.

......

Or maybe I'm just biased because I kind of want to make a "turn the dark back on" joke.

Re: Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark (Discussion Thread)

I read that they just had more problems with it a couple days ago.

Re: Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark (Discussion Thread)

Bono's heavy investing into this thing and it's subsequent failure make me happy. HAHAHAHA!

Oh yeah. I also want it to fail because of Bono.

**** Bono.

If **** and **** and **** and ********got are censored here, Bono should TOTALLY be censored.

I'm still inclined to think that the people who go to see this aren't going to be people who read Spider-Man comics, but people who are interested in the kooky, elaborate designs of Bono, Edge and whatever that director-lady's name is. Just as most of the people who like Batman Returns are usually huge fans of Tim Burton and casual fans of Batman.

This looks a lot better than people are giving it credit for.

That whole Bono censoring thing was unbelievable.

You know, I've been keepin' an eye on this. Altough the Costumes are questionable And some of the scenes I've seen kind of remind me of the old live action Batman show, but cheeser. I can't really say anything bad about the music I've heard so far. I'd actually would love to get the Soundtrack to this.

Here's one of the songs.

Rise Above Lyrics

And you said rise above
Open your eyes up
And you said rise above
But I can't
I can't

How long will it take
Before these feelings
Go away
How much longer do I wait
And are there any real answers
Anyway

Your silence in a crowded room
Louder than the loudest tune
I hang on every word

And you said rise above
Open your eyes up
And you said rise above
But I can't
I can't

I miss you in everything
I was too fast traveling
To take you in
I know, silence is no crime
Just wish I could hear you fill it up
One more time

Yes, I know what you'd say to me
Exactly what you said to me
I Still hang on every word

And you said rise above
Open your eyes up
And you said rise above
Yourself

In a time of treason
Is there time for trust
Where there's no them
Only us
Is there time for reason?
Has your heart had enough
Is it time to let go
And rise above?

And you said rise above
Open your eyes to LOVE
And you said rise above
Yourself
