Should the Ultimate Fantastic Four Comic Return?

Could you get into an ongoing with throw away villains? Are there any that are still alive that you want to read about? I'm not talking villains that are still being used (mysterio) but actual throw aways?

The spot
Sabretooth
mystique
morbius
the beetle

Just off the top of my head.

No. And the reason why is because without Reed Richards, it is not the Fantastic Four. The team exists and carries on solely because of him and his work.
.

What if they called themselves the Fantastic Force? Plus at one point Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine, and Ghost Rider were the Fantastic Four in the Marvel U. Also Crystal, Medusa, Luke Cage, Nova (Frankie Raye), She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel (Sharon Ventura), Ant-Man (Scott Lang), Storm, Black Panther, and Flux were all FF members at one point.

Or what if they introduce an alternate Reed Richards. Sue did download all of Reed's alternate reality files. Before he destroyed the Triskellion in the Ultimate Doom mini.

They did Fantastic Force 15 years ago, and it was terrible.

Honestly I can't even remember if he's dead or not, but it doesn't matter because they destroyed the character beyond hope. There is no coming back.

If they hadn't, and there was still a way to use him, I'd love to see the book used to explore the idea of space/time/dimensional/atomic exploration and how the world changes in response toward real-life applications stemming from discoveries made therein, i.e. curing diseases, etc.

Until they find an interesting new spin on it.

The FF is about a family who goes on weird science adventures. Reed is important, but he's not the it factor.

Was UFF ever about family though? I never got that vibe off them. They seemed more like a group of friends. I thought it was just about SCIENCE ADVENTURES (To boldly science where no man has scienced before).

But he is. Without Reed, there's no one making these crazy inventions which propel them into those weird science adventures, or coming up with an invention to get them out of a tight spot, etc. Reed really is the lynchpin of the FF, in either universe. He's also usually the most interesting character of the four specifically because of his insane intelligence and the things it gets him into and out of.

Yeah, the family thing never really made it to the forefront in UFF, I think largely because they were so young, and therefore largely immune to the wistful thinking of older folks who reflect on things like family and relationships. ;)

He was that. And he was necessary at the start, to develop the relationship of those four. But the book could work perfectly well with a surrogate for Reed, who creates a new family dynamic. Putting Susan's dad in there and giving them all a father figure, more of a Lost in Space type thing could be interesting, I think. Someone like Tony Stark or Bruce Banner could also work, I think, but would be much more of a stretch. The Ultimate Universe is supposed to be distinct. It's supposed to be the universe that is able to do things radically different from the formula. As far as I'm concerned there are two aspects that need to stay in place for it to retain its core principles: family and adventures in the unknown. I think there are definitely replacements that would be suitable or even preferable to Reed.

Then again, I may be biased. I always thought Ultimate Reed was a boring character.

Yeah. I thought that was the big flaw with UFF. They could have taken it in one of two extremes. Either focus on the family (which would have largely overlapped with the direction of the 616-verse) or just push hard on the "adventurers of the unknown thing", leaving them out in the ether and detached from the greater UU.

I would like to see a re worked ultimate fantastic four/five giving us a true alternative to the 616 fantastic four. In 616 black panther, storm and spiderman get swapt in and out often but it always falls back to the original four. In the ultimates the family dynamic wasn't working to well and that in itself opens up any new incarnation of the team to go in any direction it pleases.
I would like to see namor and Susan head up the new fantastic four and the remaining slots being taken up by some sort of genius to fill in the role of reed and someone else. Thing maybe playing a supporting role representing shield and eventually step up to help the team. Maybe a small annihilus playing the part of a mascot and eventually turning into annihilus when possession of the rod becomes his.

Something like that.

welcome Deathrex!

What about a Fantastic Four book starring Reed as a bad guy? I'm not sure how it would work, maybe somehow the team comes together again and the dynamic is just completely different. Maybe he works with three other villains. Maybe its just a story about the three of them as good guys and Reed as a bad guy. It still stars the same characters but they aren't a team any more. They just have interconnecting stories.

I don't know, it's a thought.

Well reed is pretty much ultimate version of kang the conqueror which I find interesting. Conflict between him and doom can take a whole new meaning/level with reed possibly using his former friends as pawns. I honestly want reed to be considered past the point of no return just to ensure it won't fall back into him being anything like what he used to be. Given it's ultimate universe i think it could be done.

I like the interconnecting stories, I don't wish it to distance from the original cast but to re purpose them while adding fresh faces and ideas. Also don't want to pull Johnny into fantastic four when he us finding slot more purpose in other books. The "not wanting to be in the four again" angle would be interesting when compared to being compelled to help his sister and friends. Same with things. Last I checked he was going for a career with shield.. Which just makes me think back to all those awesome thing solo comics! even if he is more wonder man than rocky hide monster man.
Heck nerd hulk can find a place as the scientist and strong arm from the ultimates comics. Also a nice nod to the history of a intelligent hulk being on a alternative FF.

I know this is a old thread, but I was just think about a new FF. What if it's the same team but they have Spider-Woman Join. She seems to hate being on the Ultimates. And she seems like the most likely choice out of the rest of the Ultimate Characters. She probably as smart as Peter Parker, (even though it's kind of creepy) Johnny has kind of a thing for her, And Reed was willing to kill both Peter and Jessica because he saw as threats. And Reed can be their Doctor Doom.

The Fantastic Four is unique because the knew each other and got their powers together. They are a family. A team of four people is not the same as the Fantastic Four.

True. But, people not only adopt people into their family after disasters. But some adopt people that have no other place to go. Jessica technically doesn't have a family, she's a clone. Finding some where she'll feels welcomed, some where she belongs, like she's part of a family. Is something she'll be looking for. The Ultimates are just a group of people that work together. And I think that's part of the reason she hates being on the team.

Yeah, she not alone while she in a fights. But during her down time, she has no one. All they'll have to do is have her team up with Sue, Johnny, and Ben a few times. And She's see how close they are and she'll want that. She'll want to be a part of that. (loneliness can be a very powerful thing) After that they'll just need an event that bonds them... Or Johnny could start dating her.

I could potentially see it working. The FF lost Reed to madness and he was more or less the nucleus of the team. And Jess is the clone of Pete, who was Johnny's best pal evar. The FF were a rather unconventional family unit to begin with, and households taking in a son's friend from a broken home or generally ****ty situation was pretty common.

And let's not forget this is the UU, where deviation from the established norm is expected and encouraged.
