The Superfriends wiki includes Superman 1988 in its canon do to it being the last series produced by Taft Broadcasting and the penultimate cartoon series before the start of the DCAU . Taft Broadcasting had own Hanna Barbera from 1967-91 and Ruby Spear from 1981-91.The Ruby Spears' DC cartoons (Superman (1988) and Plastic Man) have ties to the Super Friends universe, thus canon.

The Filmmation stuff I am not so sure about, especially the not-released-physically Superboy catoon. (Still looking for the Shazam cartoon dvd, only released in Brazil.)

I have been fascinated by this for years! The actor who voices Lex Luthor on that series also voiced young Lex in Challenge of the Super Friends flashback which showed him losing hair when Superboy saved him. Probably complete coincidence. The Superfriends wiki includes Superman 1988 in its canon do to it being the last series produced by Taft Broadcasting and the penultimate cartoon series before the start of the DCAU . Back then iirc Superfriends was considered part of the comic canon. That's why the tie in comic directly referenced ongoing mainline stories and mainline comic stories would also reference stories from the Superfriends comic as well. Superfriends was just canon at that point in time. Nowadays obviously it's its own universeI have been fascinated by this for years! My fascination is how most animated DC shows 60s, 70s, 80s did not try to divert too much from what was happening comics. So most of it fits together. Even business man Lex having a past as costume villain is not that implausible. Considering these shows do not get into continuity just the weekly plot. So it's not thst hard to imagine off screen events thst change things. Because those shows do not deal with time or ages at all.
I think there's room for interpretationFilmation aqualad appears in the Crisis Trilogy apparently. The artist for the movie said it's meant to be the filmation version. He's not in the same art style as the Superfriends in that movie though so I'm not sure if the intention there is to separate the filmation aquaman show from the Superfriends continuity or not
I wanna point out that the Super Friends comics were once considered part of Earth-One; they ignored that later on.Back then iirc Superfriends was considered part of the comic canon. Yeah. Iirc the Super Friends comics also explained where Wendy and Marvin went in-between seasons of the show. I'd say the Superfriends comics are probably still canon to the show even if they were originally meant to also be part of Earth One continuity. I think they're just canon to both continuities now that they're clearly more separateI wanna point out that the Super Friends comics were once considered part of Earth-One they ignored that later on.
However, the Super Powers comics are firmly set on Earth-Thirty-Two (pre-Crisis).
The Filmation Adventure Universe has never been officially declared to be part of the same universe as the Superfriends but there also nothing in either universe that disproves that they are not the same universesFilmation aqualad appears in the Crisis Trilogy apparently. Michael Bell was among the frequently used Voice Actors by Hanna Barbara Ruby Spear and Marvel Productions during the time period. At the time he was doing the voice of Young Lex in Superfriends and he was also the voice of Plastic Man on the Plastic Man show.I have been fascinated by this for years! In the case of the 1960s Filmation Shows they had DC Writers on the Writing staff. My fascination is how most animated DC shows 60s, 70s, 80s did not try to divert too much from what was happening comics. Thanks for the info!Been watching all the pre 1992 DC cartoons the New Adventure of Superman Season 1 Episode 33 Superman meets Braniac take places before the New Adventure of Superman Season 1 Episode 12 Return of Braniac. Also having watched the Superman Family Album from Superman 1988 and Adventure of Superboy using your timeline what the reason for Episode 11 of Family Album segments being between the first and second season of the Adventures of Superboy. I understand the placement of every other Family Album segment for Superman 88 in relation to the Adventure of Superboy but that one.
I will have to double check. Its him attempting Football right?. I guess it can work pre-Superboy for simplisties sake.
Wdym mirroring? All Season 3 Episodes of the New Adventure of Superman are 2 parters mirroring the setup of the Adventure of Batman which it aired along side. the Superman Cartoon the segments order was Superman Story Part 1 Superboy Story and Superman Story Part 2 to Batman Story 1 Part 1 Story 1 Part 2 and Story 2.
