I believe he is just speaking about the state of comics in general. I haven't read his Daredevil stuff yet, but from what I have heard, it is much less dark and grim than previous DD stuff. The sword through the back dig, I have no idea if it was something specific or just an example.

That's true about his DD run so far vs the previous few years. It's a completely different feel.
