Ghostbusters: The Game!

New info :

IGN: The rookie's role in Ghostbusters: The Video Game has been described as that of an intern trying out Egon's new gadgets. Was there a concern about getting too out there when you started the game? I mean, Ghostbusters has always been charming because it could kind of happen in real life (OK, not the Statue of Liberty stuff), but now you've got shotgun-like aspects to the Proton Pack and so on.

Brendan Goss: Authenticity has always been a primary focus for us so anything created for the game had to fit into the Ghostbusters universe and be a compelling gameplay addition. Not an easy task. We took a long look at what analogs we could pull from other successful action titles and how to Ghostbusterize it and give it gameplay relevance. Dan Aykroyd was a big help in this phase and gave us the in-depth explanation for the equipment and really made it feel right for the game.

Multilayer info for ps3/360

Oddly, Atari gave me a handout detailing the ins and outs of multiplayer in Ghostbusters, but Atari didn't demo any multiplayer modes. I'm glad to have the info -- which I'm about to pass on to you -- but it seemed like an awkward way to introduce something Terminal Reality has never really said all that much about. Still, there are going to be two co-op modes for Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Instant Action allows players to just jump in and start busting ghosts where Campaign Mode will set you up in one of the four multiplayer environments -- library, streets, cemetery, and museum -- and have you bust ghosts to earn money for equipment upgrades.

What's interesting about these modes is that they provide you with the opportunity to play as both the single-player star known only as the rookie and the four original Ghostbusters. Also cool -- or at least sounds like it could be cool -- are the six possible job types you'll face in a multiplayer game. Survival pits you against a "paranormal onslaught;" Containment is all about capturing every single ghost out there; Destruction charges you with destroying a bunch of ghost-spawning artifacts; you'll need to protect Egon's devices in Protection; Thief wants you to stop ghosts from stealing artifacts and Slime Dunk asks you to "dunk the most slimers," which I'm assuming means slamming them into the ghost traps. Helping you tackle these jobs are six power-ups such as the Ghost Shrinker and Ethereal Shield.

When you suit up with your buddies, you'll be working together but striving for individual recognition. See, there are scores and ranks for each competitor and those results are tied to your online profile so that you can have difficulty scaled by rank, have special ghosts appear mid-game and get matched up with similarly skilled players. Leaderboards will be there as well. Adding another layer to team-based 'busting is the fact that there is going to be "limited ammunition" that players need to pick up in-game to keep trapping. On top of that, the ghosts are reportedly going to have unique AI features so that some will be more aggressive, some can sabotage traps and some can fuse with other ghouls.

Ghostbusters Wii Hands-on
The core design of Ghostbusters for Wii is pretty similar to what you'd seen on PS3 and 360, while the game itself has been morphed to fit the system in a big, big way. All the voice acting from the original cast has made it into Red Fly's version, and the same story – you're a rookie on the Ghostbusters team; busting ghosts ensues – is brought to life through linear, level-based action gameplay.

Things take a swerve on Wii, however, and its most noticeable in the game's visual style. Characters have a look more akin to an animated feature, with larger heads (slightly), exaggerated caricature-like bodies, and huge proton packs. The game still features some pretty impressive destructible environments – outside of the main level architecture - everything from tables to soda machines, book cases and arcade cabinets can be destroyed entirely, with the game tracking your destruction in the form of monetary damage that's converted into a high score system.

The More the Merrier
Ghostbusters for the Wii was built from the ground up to support split-screen multiplayer co-op for two players. One of the major focal points of the Wii as a console has been the ease and accessibility of multiplayer co-op, even for non-gamers. We knew from its conception that Ghostbusters on the Wii would contain a cooperative multiplayer component. It's yet another aspect of the game that sets it apart from the Xbox 360 / PS3 version.

Every time players choose to start a new level, they are presented with the option to play single or multiplayer co-op. As long as you've got a second controller and a friend, you can play any of the levels in two-player mode. Our goal was to make everything in the game very accessible, so even if you don't start a level in two-player mode, activating the second controller mid-level gives you the option to restart that level with the second player active

Faithful to the Source

You can't put the power of the proton pack in someone's hand (especially as viscerally as we are on the Wii) and not expect them to want to do certain things. Those of us who saw the movie as children have very fond memories not only of the original cast of loveable goofball characters but also the memorable events that made Ghostbusters such a unique film.

When Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis penned the script for Ghostbusters the Videogame, they recognized that it would be a story told in a different medium than the original films. And while it would have been crass to include so many direct callbacks to the original films had this script been for a third movie, the fact that it was an interactive experience practically demanded that we revisit some key scenes and ghosts introduced in the original films in great detail. And to that end, Dan and Harold crafted a brand new story that continued upon the original, expanding the tale laid out in their original masterpiece. There are new motivators pushing a unique story forward, but much of the game will be comfortably familiar to players who grew up in the 1980s.

Atari Inc's CEO and president Jim Wilson has told GamesIndustry.biz that Ghostbusters: The Video Game will be released on all formats in North America June 16.

Earlier today, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe revealed that it had signed an exclusive deal to publish the PlayStation SKUs of the game in PAL territories next month, leaving the remaining Wii, DS, PC and Xbox 360 versions on hold.

"The Sony Computer Entertainment partnership is exclusive to Europe, Atari is going to be publishing on all platforms in the US on June 16," clarified Wilson.

So fellow PAL people if you getting DS, 360, pc or Wii versions they could be delayed. I'm getting Wii version. Ps3 version i'm waiting till I complete wii version so I too am waiting.

Distribution Partners is expected to handle Namco Bandai's product sales in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Asia, and will be headed up by John Galloway, previously of Take Two, THQ and EA. Distribution Partners will also handle Atari-produced titles outside of the US until 2014, which includes Ghostbusters: The Video Game, on non-Sony platforms, in June.

:D I'm so hoping this is true.

Bought it and beat it.

My impressions? It's awesome. If you like Ghostbusters. If not, it's pretty much a Gears of War clone.

Fun, funny, and occasionally, creepy as hell.
