Re: Kick-*** The Movie?

By saying it's early you assume that something wasn't already put into place. Marketing tactics are changing all the time - it's entirely possible that it was a movie pitch that they decided to turn into a comic.

Re: Kick-*** The Movie?

Millar said that the whole thing is done, so whoever is making the movie (the guy from Stardust, Layer Cake) has probably seen the whole thing and knows what is going to happen.

There's also apparently going to be a War Heroes movie, and that comic hasn't even come out yet.

Re: Kick-*** The Movie?

It's not like Kick-*** is super long. It's a four-issue story. And he knows how it's going to turn out. If he pitched that storyline as a movie, the comic book source wouldn't necessarily be the inherent selling point of the pitch.

Although, the format Millar's outlined for Kick-*** (sporadic contained miniseries) would be an ideal vehicle for a film franchise.

Could be. But in the end its a comic being turned into a movie (according to the rumor), with only one issue of said comic released.

And considering the amount of behind the scenes material released with the first issue, it seems to always be planned as a comic written by Millar and drawn by Romita.

Re: Kick-*** The Movie?

Mark Millar said:
Uh, just because only one issue of the book has appeared so far doesn't mean that's all the producers have seen. That's hilarious. I can give no comment on this yet, but rest assured that the entire plot is already written and even some of Kick-*** 2 is already done and dusted. When this movie happens, it's going to be one of the most faithful adaptations seen since Sin City. Again, I stress I make no comment on this rumour, but I've worked very, very closely with the producer and director on any plans you'll be hearing soon.

Look at wee Millar, getting caught up in all these Hollywood deals.

This happens a lot.

Like Project said (and Millar), we've seen only one issue, but remember all the scripts are complete, so the producers and whoever else have seen the completed material.

They're not gonna wait issue for issue as it hits the stand to see what happens.

I'm not disputing that. I'm just saying that from where I'm standing, however much of the plot the producers may or not be privy to, it seems very premature to get into the whole movie realm. I understand they do things differenty now with multi-media and the properties utilizing the different media forms, but to jump into something without any (or hardly any) previous exposure seems like a dangerous business move.

I don't see how so. I mean, it's just like pitching an original movie (remember that Hollywood?!).

It's only a four-issue story? I may be able to read this sooner than I thought if they do a trade soon enough after it ends.

I'm disappointed at that. I thought it'd be longer than 4 issues. Though as mentioned, apparently there are already scripts and art done for Kick-*** 2, and I think there was mention of possible spin-off or one-shot type ideas being kicked around.

I do like the fact that Millar mentioned this would be a VERY faithful adaptation (specifically comparing it to Sin City in that regard), as opposed to the liberties taken with Wanted or say, The Ultimates (see the Ultimate Avengers straight-to-DVD Animated movies...or better yet, don't see them...read the comic and know it was infinitely better than the DVDs).

Yeah, I saw this as something with more potential and appeal than almost anything out there right now. I'm stunned it isn't an ongoing, but you know what? Good. Ongoings are comic cancer magnets.

I'd be thrilled to see this handled entirely in 4+ issue "sequels" at irregular intervals, with the whole thing staying fresh because they'll only be telling stories when they actually have stories to tell.

Christ. This kind of alacrity of turnover makes me think we're talking about a fast food chain.

I completely forgot about this thread. I was posting bits and pieces in the comic discussion thread. Oh well.
