Ourchair's Awesome Anime Thread

I watched Rebuild of Evangelion 2.2: You Can (Not) Advance (wow, that's a stupidly long title...) earlier today. I had a lot of trouble watching the first Rebuild film because it was such a by-the-numbers retread of the original series, which I've seen a thousand times over. This one, however, was a significant departure from the original Evangelion story, which managed to capture my attention more effectively; it seems that Hideki Anno's also had the graciousness to ease the emotional pain of the principle characters. Shinji faces his problems head on, Rei is more extroverted (and occasionally outright affectionate!) and Asuka walks into the film with her issues previously resolved. Hell, even Gendou is humanized. Surprisingly enough, this allows the otherwise extensive character arcs to be effectively condensed into a timeframe more allowing of a motion picture series, rather than a full length serialized anime. I think that the derailing of the plot from familiar territory also accentuates the narrative in certain ways; it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. My friends and I spent hours speculating and theorizing on what'll happen next.

I'd definitely recommend it to fans of the series, or even people who thought the original anime was too dense, weird or confusing. This is pretty accessible.

I just recently saw the dubbed version of RoE: 1.1, and I really liked it. It was basically new to me because for whatever reason I have never seen the first couple of episodes of the original series. Anyway, I plan on getting to watching the second movie sometime this week.

I know there are a bunch of people on this forum who are following the Full Metal Alchemist manga. I havent read the manga and am following the anime instead. And oh my freaking god is this show insane!
Al just sacrificed himself to give Ed his arm back so he has a fighting chance against what basically amounts to a god
. Loving every minute.

So two animes I liked ended today, which makes me a sad panda.

First, was Durarara! which had the pretty cool ending I expected it to be. Seriously,
Simon socking Izaya in the face and telling him that it's not a good idea to cause trouble for people
was perfect.

Last was Angel Beats! which turned out to be a pretty funny and well written show, with an ending that made me a little misty eyed. I'll miss both of these shows, hopefully the next season has got some good stuff coming up.

OH, and I almost forgot, the last episode of Bakemonogatari should be available this week, hopefully it's a good one!

The end of Durarara!! was good, albeit a little unsatisfying. I wish that they hadn't dropped the entire subplot with Izaya exacerbating the gang war to wake Celty's head. I really hope they do a second season.

I loved the ending of Durarara!! Like Iceshadow, my favorite part was
Simon punching Izaya across a park.

I don't think the subplot of the gang war was dropped, it was very much resolved. The heads of the three sides came together, apologized for lying to one another, and ended the feud before things got really nasty. Izaya's plan failed, but he retains possession of the head so there remains the threat that he can always try again with different pawns. Which makes him a better villain than most.

summer season has begun. looks like a few goods things are out so far i've watched:

Grandchild of Nurarihyon
: this seems like a very promising series, one that might hold out over the others.

Sekitokai Yakuindomo
: don't really care for it, its one of those Harmen Anime

The Legend of the Legendary Heroes : the show itself is interesting, but the subs are really off in there timing.

I found all of the ones nigma mentioned kinda boring/cliched, if I later hear that they get better I may try them again.

From what I've seen the best ones are so far:

Occult Academy: The entire first episode is a reference to the Evil Dead movies, and it is totally awesome. Seriously, the girl totally uses a chair to Monday Night RAW her deadite dad back into his coffin during his funeral. WATCH IT.

Black Lagoon Season 3: This is no surprise to anyone who read the other thread but I love this series. It's like the best action movie ever made, with awesome characters and some pretty crazy stories. Start from the first season and check it out, that is...unless you're chicken.

The first one may be a little cliched, but it looks very promising, by eps. 5 i'm hoping they have all the animation stuff smoothed out. Then again, I feel the same way about Lagoon being boring.

I read the first two chapters of Black Lagoon and I loved it! I'm gonna watch the first episode tonight to see if the action is any better than it was in the manga. In the manga, the action sequences seem confusing and convoluted with "SPLOOSH" and "BLAM BLAM"

Have you read the manga for Nurarihyon?

Yeah the the anime is way better since all of the action is animated, and is clear to look at.

Had a chance to watch Digimon Xros Wars this is the 6th season of the show. everyone has there favorites. didn't really care for the story line so far, just the nostalgia of remembering all the names as the Digimon pop up on screen, its been a good 5-6 years.

I really wish I knew flash, cause I would make a whole bunch of anime openings for my written works. Seriously, they all follow the same basic formula.

*Landscape shot*
*slightly hip music, the first opening for a show is always fast*
*Shot of protagonist (bonus points for staring off into the distance, or sleeping*
*shot of protagonist's best friend/love interest*
*shot of antagonist laughing, many henchman in black behind him (As show goes on, and the various henchmen are introduced, they are shown here as well*
*shot of protagonist screaming*
*shot of protagonist running towards danger (bonus points for showing love interest/best friend in trouble with in the reflection of the eyeball*
*shot of protagonist releasing a ****load of power*
*shot of various other characters in the story quickly popping in and out of frame*
*final shot of a photograph of the assembled cast in front of a landmark that is important in the first season of the show*

Seriously. if I could make one for Grocer Man's Epic of Epicnexus, it would go like this.

*Music - Whatever fast Japanese track I find*
*First shot of Grocer Man, casually leaning against the Welcome sigh of Reno Nevada, wind rustling his hair and hoodie*
*Shot of Dr. Strangefate, with Ice, Bass, and Project walking behind him (first in black, and as they get introduced, they will be there*
*Shot of the letter being read by Grocer Man, with it disintegrating, and him turning around to see Random with six other black out people (this will change to whatever evil veteran he is fighting that week will be revealed standing behind Random)*
*Shot of Grocer Man running towards a casino. The shot rapidly goes into the distance, showing someone laughing at Grocer Man*
*Shots of Grocer Man doing various video game moves, insert funny shot of the bomb from Zelda blowing up in his face*
*shots of roommates, friends, and other characters he meets doing the storyline jumping in and out of frame*
*Final shot of Grocer Man jumping into frame with the assembled cast standing behind him posing*

See, easy peasy

If anybody is a fan of the movie Groundhog's Day, you might want to check out Tatami Galaxy it's about a guy who is in search of a "rose tinted" college experience, but is continually unsatisfied by how it turns out. The clock resets each episode, with the next one opening with him picking a new club in hopes of it leading to the perfect college life. The show can get kind of wordy and hard to read all at once but overall I liked it.

Tell that lazy Random to get on it!
