Rob Liefeld on Alan Moore

I do believe, if I remember correctly (and I know I do), that dear old Alan would have been perfectly happy to keep working for Awesome (gee that name was, uh Awesome) had they not gone belly up 'cos of stinky old Rob Liefeld's innate financial stupidity. And perhaps finish that classic Supreme run which was aborted by your own brand of 'genius'.

I do not believe that he ripped off his ideas for ABC, i think that what he did was a progression from what he had done before, but in a novel twist, with much better art, and no misguided artists that own the company ruining miniseries by hijacking the climax with background impaired 'etchings' (Judgement Day, Rob, Judgement Day).

I've read your own employees diss you about this, Rob, you missed the boat, man. You never read any of the aforementioned submissions at the time, too busy trying to cut deals, too busy working out which new series you could launch and never finish.

Frankly, I have nothing but respect for A.M., and ZERO for you, dude. Onslaught Reborn is C.R.A.P. that only those who have zero understanding of comics seem to enjoy (they also seem to buy Spawn, so go figure). Jeph Loeb seems to like you as a person, but we don't have to. We have suffered thru your regressing art style for too too long to
start taking you seriously now.

Go on and crawl back under your rock, "man". History will not remember you, even as a dude that once hired Alan Moore. The rights have all been signed away. Whats that smell? Sour grapes, I believe.

And now I have wasted 5 minutes of my life. I truly believe that you must be a genius of sorts, too. Seldom has one done so much with so little.

this is from mccracken kid that was posted under the article and pretty much is the best argument IMO.

That is so wrong, why is there no "A" on his head?
Because Rob thought it stood for 'Awesome' and that would be a copyright infringement of his company, Awesome Entertainment.

It wouldn't be right for him to infringe his own property at Marvel.

Because he thought he was drawing Fighting American and didn't want to get sued by Marvel.

See - it's just to easy to rib the guy for the same reasons.

One thing I didn't comment on that really annoyed me: Tom Strong as a rip-off of Supreme.

I can see why Mr Liefeld is upset, after all - Supreme is a totally original superhero with his whole, "last member of an alien race", being able to fly, his invulnerability to everything except "supremium", and working as a reporter in a newspaper. Christ, those kinds of ideas only happen - twice. Once in the late 1930s and then, coincidentally, 60 years later. Thank God that at the time, Alan Moore wasn't doing anything else that would later be turned into a movie starring Johnny Depp so he could completely bring this totally original creation to life.

I've invented a totally original character. I call him Arachnid. He can stick to walls, shoot webs and can sense danger with his "Arachnid Alarm". I was going to do an ongoing series, but quit after a week because I discovered Stan Lee and Steve Ditko ripped me off 18 years before I was born. I have no intention of working with them.

It seems to me the only thing he's ****ting on is Alan Moore's public confrontationalism (i.e., "a whiner") and the 'mythified persona' (which I'm sure even Moore himself would want to play down)

Sure, he's being a little bit of a jerk about it, but still.

That was my take on it. Liefeld may be a horrible artist, but in this interview he didn't seem out of line or untruthful. It sounds like he was calling it how he saw it, and thats probably the way a majority of the other people in the industry who've worked with Moore see it.

Moore wins.

Every time I look at that I cringe. Just like when I see Courtney Love, though the Liefeld Cap picture is easier to look at.

Though I will agree with you on the most part, because of my love of the original Supreme, I do feel obligated to point out that Supreme was not in fact an alien (though one of the Supremes in the Supremacy was) but rather a man transformed by supremium, and he was a comics artist rather than a reporter. Sorry, I know its a nitpick, but I could not help myself.

Just a head's up. "Rob Liefeld on Alan Moore" is now ON DEMAND in the Adult Movies section. Check it.

This is like Britney Spears being critical of Beethoven, even with the same amount of oblivious whining.

I wish stuff like Liefeld criticizing Moore happened more often. Speaking of which, has John Byrne opened his stupid mouth lately?

Byrne did a recent rant (just prior to Comic-Con) that women don't read comics because they're "complex to read".

Misogynous old fart.

Liefeld should release that Knights of the Round Table/Pulp Fiction pitch Moore did. I want to listen to it and it would be the best thing Liefeld has done.
