The All About Comic Book Movies Thread

CBR:

Ghost Rider 2

At WonderCon, Nicholas Cage briefly mentions the project. Latino Review has the video and, let's just face it, it's always fun to see Cage explain things.

The first Toxic Avenger movie was brilliant.

But this should be in the regular All About Movies Thread. It was a movie before it was a comic.

haha, Nicolas Cage is so ...weird.

The Ghost Rider movie was like if Disney had made a cartoon version of Faust. It's kind of true.

He's completely hit or miss now.

I remember back in the 90s, I was ready to see all his films because they were awesome. But then he just started doing crap.

Where does Marvel go after getting bigger than any other superhero movie when they release The Avengers? They rein it in and get smaller.

Marvel Studios is currently taking meetings with writers and directors to work on small scale movies based on some of their third tier characters. The movies would cost in the range of 20 to 40 million dollars (very small when we're talking studio films) and would allow them to take risks with less obvious characters and with interesting talent.

Filmmakers are being offered their pick of characters whose names are only familiar to comic fans. Properties like Dr. Strange, Ka-Zar, Luke Cage, Dazzler and Power Pack are among the many that are being tossed around right now. And the attitude seems to be that Marvel is open to bringing any of their characters to the screen at the right price point.

This plan allows Marvel much more flexibility; a 100 million dollar Dazzler movie makes no sense, but one budgeted at 25 million - done right - could be a moneymaker. And at a lower budget these movies don't need to be quite so mainstream. A 20 million dollar film can take much bigger risks than one that costs a hundred million more than that.

Marvel's plan sounds refreshing. Right now, superhero films are at a serious risk of falling into a rut where "superheroes" are seen as a genre in and of themselves. Smaller budget films would allow us to see more four color characters that fit into other genres.

As for Nic Cage. He's such a terrible actor, but such a great personality. :D

I agree, go smaller with some of these movies. I really loved that Thomas Jane's Punisher was low budget and it would be nice to have Marvel be able to increase the budget on occasion for some necessities to put the movie over the top. Punisher could have really use that option

GHOST RIDER 2

According to the Vulture, the show may go on without original star Nicholas Cage. "Legally, if the studio isn't in production on a sequel by November 14, 2010, the franchise automatically reverts to Marvel — which means the comic company's new owner, Disney," they write and the pressure may mean the end of the actors involvement. Of course, that doesn't mean he'll stop acting as though his head is on fire.

You know I really don't mind Nic as Ghost Rider. I mean out of all the super hero roles he's tried to get this is one that I see he could have potential with. And I really don't think the problems in the movie was his fault, cause all the acting sucked balls. Not just him. As long as they get a good director who can handle the story it doesn't matter if Cage is in it or not.
