The Timeline Guy
Hey all. I'm a big comic fan (obviously), and have been collecting a game called Heroclix for several years (I'm sure many of you have at least seen or heard of this game at your local comic store). The game is made by a company called Wiz Kids Games, they also make Mage Knight, Mechwarrior, Sportsclix, etc. Anyway, in the past few sets, many Ultimate character have been represented in clix form. As a matter of fact, the set before the last was called "Ultimates" and was mostly aimed at making Ultimate versions of classic 616 characters (which had already been made in their 616 versions in earlier sets)! So far, Ultimate versions of each of the following characters have been made into clix (the name in parentheses next to each character is the set it was released with):
Captain America (Ultimates)
Iron Man (Ultimates)
Thor (Ultimates)
Hulk (Ultimates)
Giant Man (Mutant Mayhem)
Black Widow (Ultimates)
Hawkeye (Ultimates)
Sentinel Trooper (Ultimates)
Wolverine (Ultimates)
Cyclops (Ultimates)
Marvel Girl (Ultimates)
Beast (Ultimates)
Storm (Ultimates)
Magneto (Ultimates)
Sabretooth (Ultimates)
Spider-Man (Ultimates)
Blade (Mutant Mayhem)
Green Goblin (Xplosion)
Doctor Octopus (Ultimates)
Rhino (Critical Mass)
Electro (Ultimates)
...and news just released yesterday on the next Marvel set, called "Fantastic Forces", revealed we'll be seeing the Ultimate Fantastic Four in clix form and offered previews of both Ultimate Thing and Ultimate Doom (the set is scheduled to be released in July, obviously to tie in with the upcoming FF movie being released this summer). The sculpts of each are awesome, and the game is a lot of fun. Also rumored to be released in the next set, as far as Ultimate characters go, is possibly Nick Fury, Wasp, and Quicksilver to round out the Ultimates team, and obviously Ultimate versions of Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Girl, and Human Torch will also be included.
A great resource for learning more about this game is www.hcrealms.com and www.wizkidsgames.com (both sites have the previews for the upcoming sets on their front page); there are MANY more 616 versions of characters in the game, and there are both different Marvel and DC sets available. And the coolest thing of all...last year a con exclusive was a scaled Galactus (most of the regular pieces are only about a quarter to half inch tall, and Galactus is a little over a foot tall!!), and this years con exclusive is a Dark Phoenix (beautiful sculpt by the way). I was lucky enough to pick up a BIG G through ebay, but had to pay an arm and a leg to do so due to the rarity and strong gameplay statistics of the figure.
If you're a fan of comics, you should really check this out. All you clix fans post your opinions!!!
