Ultimate X-Men #77 Discussion (Spoilers!)

Re: Ultimate X-men #77 Preview

I kinda like the guest artist. He's maintained the serious tone of the art that Oliver had......but I can see small hints of a cartoonish Immonen vibe.

I like it.

I've stayed away from the dialogue because I like going in fresh....but I have to say that the story so far has been extrememly solid. And I likes the art. So I'm fairly excited for this.

Credits say it's still Oliver...it does look different though. Brighter maybe?

Woah... The art looks GREAT. Enjoying the visuals... As much as I am the story going on in this issue. I think this one should bring the title back to what it once was with Vaughan.

WARNING:

do NOT read the new solicitation for Ultimate X-men 80 unless you want to have the ending of this arc spoiled...

Marvel blew it with the solicitation and make it clear who bites it.

Unless its misdirection, and Jean dies.

Re: Ultimate X-men #77 Preview

It's not Oliver, that's an error. It's the new artist.

It looks great.

Jean: Who are you, why are you doing this?

Cable: I'm just a regular joe With a regular job I'm your average white Suburbanite slob I like football, and porno, and books about war I've got an average house With a nice hardwood floor My wife, and my job My kids, and my car My feet on my table And a Cuban cigar But sometimes that just ain't enough To keep a man like me interested Oh no, no way, uh uhh No, I gotta go out and have fun At someone else's expense Oh yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah I drive really slow In the ultra-fast lane While people behind me are going insane I'm an *******,I'm an *******

Moved to the news forum.

And it credits Oliver because that's what the original solicitation was.

Ultimate X-Men Issue #77 starts off with Cyclops sitting out by his and jean "special" tree. Iceman comes over to talk to Scott. Asking him if he's ok. Iceman does his best to convince Scott that they will get Jean back, but he needs to show a little confidence. Scott chews Bobby out, but quickly takes it back. They walk back to the school and Scott asks how Bobby dealing with Rogue be with out Gambit's powers. Bobby tells him it blows that thier back to square one with the whole relasionship thing.

We then see Xavier talking to Syndicate over the phone telling them he wants them to do an other job. and to go meet some people that will tell them where to go from there. Xavier then leaves his office an runs into Storm and asks how Kitty is doing. She tells him kitty is not happy here. Xavier says that he's notest that for a while. He says her relationship with Peter Parker is only serving to further drive her frome this place. As much as he hoped that everyone wold view the students there as their family and the school as their home. He knows its just not happening with her. The X-Men gather in the McCoy Memorial Hall as seen in the Ultimate X-Men #77 preview thread.

We see Bishop explaining why Cable has come here. He assembles a team together to go after Cable. The then teleport to the former Weapon X headquarters in Finland. Woverine tells them "Here is a place i never wanted to return to. I was never at thiscompond--but knowing what happend in this place-- Makes his skin crawl. Rogue says "I know how you feel. I always thought I was gonna die here... BAM Rogue's arm gets blasted off! Wolverine dives after Rogue hoping to help her. We then see Donino and the rest standing there.

Wolverine pops his claws and goes after them for what they did to Rogue. The take Woverine out with one shot. The battle beggins and Ice man grabs Rogue. Colossus take a swing at Grizzly and says The woman called you "Grizzly." That mane does not seem... appropriate. Grizzly transforms in to a giant Grizzly Bear and says "Really? Is that so? What do you think about it now?! Iceman takes Rogue over to bishop and pleads with him to take her back to Xavier's. Bishop opens a portal and tells him to take her their and come right back.

Iceman drops off Rogue in the Infirmary. Kitty asks what happen Bobby says he doesn't have the time to explain but tells her to call the Professor. Back in the Porfessor's office we see Xavier and Scott talking, Xavier tells Scott to stop pacing. Xavier stops talking and tells Scott to come to the infirmary with him.

Back at the compound we see Cable watching the fight thats taking place outside. he then goes and checks on Jean. he asks her if when she uses her telekinisis does she see goblins doing all the work? Jean just stair at him, Cable turns and says " I thought so. That was the first sign. It will happen soon. I just wanted to let you know you'll get through it. it will take some time--but you will.

We then go back to the institute where we see Rogue tell the Professor she will be fine. That it hurts but its growing back. Xavier storms out of the room Scott chases after him. Asking him where he is going Xavier says he can't just sit there as his children are in harms way. Scott says he can't let him do that. He is the prime target. Xavier says he doesn't care. Scott asks why are you doing this. Xavier says, " Damn it, Scott-- can't you see? Do I have to spell it out for you?! I'm in love with jean.

Not a bad issue. Can't wait till part four.

You titled the thread with spoilers and then you actually covered up the spoilers? :?

Meh....

Anyways.....not a bad issue at all. Quite solid all around. I wouldn't say that it was excellent---but extremely solid.

Nice dialogue and character development. Nice artwork (love how the artist's style mixes Immonen's cartoonish look and Oliver's darker/realistic look).

The Rogue part shocked the hell outta me. For a second, when she said Logan's healing factor wasn't working---I thought Kirkman threw us all for a loop with killing Xavier/Scott/Jean....and opted to kill Rogue instead. Nice twist. Real nice to see the X-Men bested in team battle by seasoned vets.

The Xavier loving Jean thing was no suprise. I could tell he loved her back when she was calling him Charles and he kept correcting her.....hell even before then you could tell. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of the team reacts to this...if they even find out.

I wish they would stop using Syndicate. All it does is hint at the fact that he might be used in the future and I'm utterly disgusted by that.

4/5 easy...

Re: Ultimate X-Men #77 Discussion "Spoiler"

Kirkman is really cementing everything that was implied before. Colossus's sexuality, Xavier's feelings. . .He also seems intent on cutting the team down. Nightcrawler gone bat**** crazy, Rogue losing an arm, Kitty leaving. He's really making this book to be his own. Still nothing confirming if Cable was telling the truth about his identity. . .but how the hell did he know about Jean's "hallucinations"? I mean. . .there's definitely more to meets the eye with him. Looking forward to the last issue and the aftermath of this.

I like the people that haven't read the the issue yet, to be just as surpised as I was when I read and, or saw that.

Agreed. I wasn't a big fan of Immonen at first, but he slowly grew on me. Now with Paquette, its just as you described...a perfect blend of the anime/cartoon-like styling of Immonen, just with more defined lines and a bit of a darker tone. I don't know, it just works for me. I like it.

If I had to guess, I'd say Jean's Phoenix possession might play a role in the shaping of Cable and Bishop's future...perhaps it was just misconstrued in some way and the blame fell to Xavier in Cable's eyes...maybe because of Prof X's love for Jean, he couldn't bring himself to kill her in the future, despite it being necessary?

Eh, I don't know, seems a little melodramatic the way I put it.
