Next year we'll be gettting William Faulkner's Sound and the Fury: The Video Game.

heh.

If it's anything like Finnegan's Wake, the arcade game will be better than the console version. The stage where you have to get tremendously baked to have any clue what's going on is awesome.

Brilliant. Just absolutely brilliant.

Between this and the upcoming Wanted game (I'm serious), I'm befuddled at these companies decisions to make games based off movies based off comics which really don't translate well to videogame (okay actually Wanted if done right could be a barrel of fun)

did they learn nothing from the PSP 300 game?

Watchmen is not quite what I would call a "fun" comic.

Nor would I. I was referring to the game. And if you say the game shouldn't be fun because you wouldn't describe the work its based on to be so, I'll have to call you insane.

Also, given this isn't an adaptation of the graphic novel or movie itself, but an original prequel story instead, kind of helps deviate it from being bound by the story set forth by Moore.

I don't expect it to be amazingly good (or good at all), I'm just saying it could be. All we've seen of it is an article describing some of the gameplay and options in the game. Its retarded to pass judgement on it already. Even moreso when doing it in the context of the original graphic novel. The two are (or will be) world's apart and EVERYONE should realize that from the get go. Take the graphic novel for what it is: a ground-breaking piece of fiction; the movie for what it is: hopefully a faithful and worthy adaptation of that graphic novel; and the videogame for what it is: a cheap cash-in on the movie's popularity, which could be a decent game, but probably won't be, admittedly.

Right up my alley.

Thats because you're looking at it from the standpoint of a fan expecting a decent and worthwhile gameplay experience, instead of as a corporate executive who is trying to cash in with Summer-Blockbuster-Movie merchandising.

Seriously, people, this shouldn't come as a surprise.

I think for most Americans, "To Catch A Predator" turned them off to child molestation. Everyone got scared they'd have Chris Hansen showing up at their door. Which makes sense. That guy is one self-righteous prick.

yeah. Like he never molested any kids.

Bull. ****.

He's just trying to draw the attention away from his own child harem.

Oh, slander.

I do not like this idea. Watchmen isn't really an adventurous action thing. It's just weird to think about playing this. I get what DIB and Houde are saying but I just can't get into this idea on a fundamental level

Yeah. That's one of the reasons why I just can't see them turning the movie into a fun Summer Blockbuster in any sense of the word, without completely changing the story around. Action just isn't there; that's not what the story's for. Even if you have a "Hey, Rorschach, remember that time when..." sort of a game to explain away why the characters are in action-packed scenarios, it would just be superficial and lame.

I can remember a fair amount of scenes in the early issues of Watchmen where Rorschach is running around, kicking *** in bars and back alleys to get information about the Mask Killer.

This game is basically going to be that. As I said, don't expect Watchmen from this game, just expect a small sliver of Watchmen best suited for video games (Rorscach and Night Owl kick ***...The End).

Besides, as said, its a prequel story set 11 years before the movie/graphic novel. In terms of comparison to the 1985 setting of the movie and novel, this game will focus on a slightly more innocent and less Apocalyptic time in the Watchmen universe. Back when they were all still costumed adventurers fighting crime.

There's your story. Seems to work for a video game to me.

If you're expecting more than that, you're being naive.

I'm sorry, but this is gonna lead me into a huge rant about Moore taking himself and his work too seriously, and I'm not in the mood.

That's interesting, I don't think the story ever said why exact mask crime fighters were out lawed. It would be interesting to see that and there's much more room for action. So if its a prequel I'm a little interested

That sounds like Watchmen as Family Guy, all that's needed is to add an unfunny pop culture flashback and it's a dead ringer :p
"Hey Rorschach, remember that time that we bought a Gremlin from that old Chinese man but it was really just Gary Coleman??"

*pointless flashback*
Family Guy > SSJ Mole
Mole > Family Guy.

In fact, Everything > Family Guy.
