I'm trying to decide whether to get this on Wii or XBox 360.

The Wii version is cheaper, but if I get the 360 version I can get Guitar Hero 2 and play that as well.

Is 2 the only Guitar Hero game that has appeared on XBox?

Have any plans to release any of the previous games on Wii (or XBox) been announced?

And does anyone know if it is expected that all of the extra songs for purchase will be the same on the Wii as on the 360?

Yes, but you can download a lot of the tracks from Guitar Hero 1 from Xbox Live, for a price of course.

No. I really wouldn't count on it either.

All of the versions of GHIII have the same song list, I believe, but Xbox Live will allow you to buy song packs, while I don't believe the Wii version will.

In other words, get the 360 version. Also, you can pick up Guitar Hero 2 and download more songs for it via Live.

Cool - I'll do that. Thanks.

For anyone who cares - Best Buy, which is a very sucky store, is running a special where if you get Guitar Hero 3 you can get $10 off any game (or accessory, I think) $29.95 or above. So I'll probably do that and get #2.

Ugh, I hate Best Buy.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy it. Me, personally, I suck at Guitar Hero. I'm thinking about getting Rock Band, however. Just don't tell my boss.

I'm not very good either. I've only ever made it through one song on medium difficulty. However I've never owned any of the games and other than playing in the store, I've only really played it once at a friend's house.

Why would your boss care which game you got?

Crap.

See, I want Guitar Hero and don't have a PS2, Xbox, or Wii.

I'm seriously thinking about getting a Wii because not only is Guitar Hero 3 on it, but it has lots of games I love like WarioWare and Rayman Rabbits (or whatever) and access to all those older Nostalgia Entertainment System games (though not as many as I thought). Plus, it's the chepest.

The Xbox and Playstation however - the only thing I'd ever want them for is Guitar Hero and they seem better at that, but it's much more expensive... for less.

So I dunno. Maybe I should just get the Wii, wait for the PS2 to get mega cheap and if the Wii still doesn't have the older songs available online, just suck up and buy the older stuff. If I can get Guitar Hero 1 & 2, a PS2 and one Guitar controller and a memory stick for less than 100 quid, I might do that and still try to get a Wii for 3 and upward.

I dunno. The Wii - part of me wants to get it for the fun of the cardio aspect of the games.

*sigh*

I work for Activison. When you walk into Best Buy, Toys R US, or Target, and marvel at the demo units or displays for Guitar Hero, that's my handiwork.

Get the Wii. The only things you'll be missing out on are the song packs, which isn't a huge deal (Especially since they cost about 5 bucks a pop). Oh, and Guitar Hero 1 and 2. But, if you really want those, just buy a PS2 later.

I played the demo for GH3 at a friends last night on Xbox360 Live, we didn't have the guitar so it was a bit hard at first to figure out but once we did it was just tons of fun (L2 green, L1 Red, R1 Yellow, etc)

I might actually get this for my PS3, or my Wii, well this or Rock Band (I heard you could upload your own CD's in that game does anyone know if this is true?)

So you're the vile fiend who makes it so we can't just run off with a new console! Fiend!

That's what I think too.

Why won't the song packs and previous games be available for download? *puppy dog eyes*

... Dude. No. Guitar Hero without the fake plastic guitar with brightly coloured buttons is like playing Halo with a herring.

It just doesn't make any gorram sense.

I've never played it with the guitar so i had nothing to compare it with, still had fun, it reminded my of Amplitude and Frequency (pretty much GH without the guitar)

Oh, that's cool.

And I agree. Get the Wii. You want it for all the cool games (You didn't mention Super Paper Mario, which is one of the most fun games ever) - just do it!

Here's my Guitar Hero 3 purchase story.

Against my better judgment, I did go to Best Buy to get it - not only because they had $10 off another game, but because I needed a DVD-WR drive for a computer I'm building.

The $10 off was a coupon and had to be printed out and brought in. Totally my fault for not doing it, but when you go to places like Borders they are totally cool about it and have a generic coupon at the registers that you can use. All you need is the rewards program card, which I did.

No go.

I left, and for a brief second considered taking the games and drive and throwing them down the isle. Best Buy has no interest in making things easy for people.

So i went down the street to Circuit City and got it along with a free guitar stand, and the DVD-RW drive was $20 cheaper too.

I hate Best Buy.

Really? :D It looks fun. Tell my why it is one of the most fun games ever! I've only read the back of the box. :D Let me live through you vicawiiously. :D

You have Guitar Hero 3.

This is all that matters.

Now ROCK! LIKE A HURRICANE!

Aye. I was actually thinking that as I snapped on the lock for the 360's running the demo. However, it is not my job to make sure you don't run away with the guitar. That usually has some built-in security measures (Like the guitar being physically attached to the display unit in Toys R Us).

I do get perks, however. I got to keep one of the hard drives and controllers for one of the demo units we set up. Saved me 50 bucks on a controller! :D

You should have ripped open one of the guitars and brought down the thunder on whoever denied you your coupon. That would have been the METAL thing to do.

It is absolutely the most perfect mix if new and fresh and nostalgia. The 3d flip mode is absolutely one of the coolest ideas I've ever seen in a game. The use of the pixels is very innovative too. I've never played a game anything like it and yet it is a perfect addition to the Mario games.

It's unique but innovative - it's not different just for the sake of being different.

Oh man. I have so much to learn about being metal.

you must help me decide!

this or Rock Band? or Both?

Depends. Do you plan on playing the guitar a lot? If yes, then both. Otherwise, just Rock Band.

Personally, I'm just getting Rock Band. If I get good at the guitar with it, I'll go back and pick up GHII and III.

I'd probably end up only playing guitar/bass (i heard you could play bass in Rock Band is it a seperate guitar or can you just play bass with the regular guitar?), maybe drums on an off occasion

singing is not an option

plus i don't have online right now
