Batman Beyond vs. Spider-Man Unlimited

Re: That Thread About Old Cartoons: "The kerium rush brought outlaws by the storm!"

I can't think of a single way Spider-Man Unlimited ripped off Batman Beyond.

Have you seen Spider-Man Unlimited?!

- Edgy, sinister opening titles with a synth rock theme.

- Futuristic, dystopia setting.

- A superhero with a futuristic tech suit that can turn invisible.

- 'Alternate' versions of classic supervillains

- The title 'Batman Beyond' compared to 'Spider-Man Unlimited'. You can't say they bear no resemblance.

Surface resemblences are not blatant rip-offs. Theme songs? Costumes that turn invisible? Are you kidding me?

A young Batman in the future being trained by the original Batman, and the real Spider-Man on an alternate earth are hardly a "shameless ripoff."

Not to mention that everyone and their mother were animals in Spider-Man Unlimited. In Batman it was just the splicers.

Batman Beyond(yes, I'm referring to him as that)/Terry McGuiness himself was a shameless capitalization on Spider-Man's edgy, smartass teen appeal.

So is every teenage character created after 1960 other than maybe the Robins?

Re: That Thread About Old Cartoons: "The kerium rush brought outlaws by the storm!"

Question since people are talking about Spider-man Unlimited. Are the High Evolutionary in Unlimited the same ones from 90's X-men?

90's x-men and 90's spider-man crossed over so they are in same universe

Unlimited has ellements of 90's spider-man as it's meant to be a spin off I think

So adding those up could they be the same ones from the X-men cartoon or are they just counter-earth's version since counter earth had it's own goblin ect...

I remember reading that WB asked Timm to make "Batman in high school" to appeal to the Buffy crowd. Batman Beyond was the result.

But yeah, I can see where you're coming from.

NO! No no no! Wrong! ARGH! Is the site testing me today?!:panic:

How is that wrong? I don't think it's unreasonable to say that Spider-Man created the archetypal teenage character that's been used in comic books for the past 40 years or so... I mean, other than Archie, he was the most marketable version of such a character, and a lot of things have aped that style.

I do think the Buffy connection makes more sense than an intentional spidey rip-off though.

That said, Batman Beyond is infinitely better than Spider-Man Unlimited.

This is the thread time I "started" a thread I hadn't intended to.

If anyone thinks I started a thread with that first post I wouldn't blame them for considering me retarded.

Re: That Thread About Old Cartoons: "The kerium rush brought outlaws by the storm!"

I'm not saying Terry wasn't like Spider-man BUT I have one thing to say on this comparison. Isn't Peter supposed to be the "every-kid" when he was a teen? Doesn't that mean Terry would HAVE to be like Peter because of that factor?

But Terry and Peter also differ a lot too. Terry is more of a criminal type while Peter is a geek type. Peter has no one to learn from , Terry learns from Bruce which is important as if everything turns to **** they will both react differently. Terry seems more angry while Peter is more emotional. Terry is successful-ish with women while Peter sucks at dating.

So I think the similarities are just because of that "every-kid" thing. But those differences make them very diffrent charracters. Of course this is just my thinking

It sounds like I'm either being sarcastic or just randomly aggressive about something that nobody else has ever given a second thought to.

Then insert the quote from Gothamite that lead you to post that. Then everybody's happy.

Exactly.

It's like saying Gagamboy ripped off Spider-Man, because they feature young down-trodden boys turned into insect-powered heroes.

Or Batman ripped off The Shadow because both were affluent playboys who fought crime in dark capes.

Or Captain Marvel ripped off Superman because they both wear capes and fly and are really strong and have square jaws.

Although, Batman really was just a rip-off of The Shadow. He was just another in a gaggle of pretty generic pulp vigilantes. It took a while for him to differentiate himself.
