Re: The return of Amazing Spider-Man (Slott/Ramos)

I'm normally a big fan of Ramos' stuff, but lordy is that ugly.

Call me when Slott is off the book.

Re: The return of Amazing Spider-Man (Slott/Ramos)

Well, that was predictable.

I'm glad, though. But I DO have one question... What in the world is going on with his feet?

Seconded.

Ramos is mostly pretty awful, but that is just downright terrible. Those feet...

I love Humberto Ramos. This picture looks like it was Frankensteined together though.

The official press release

"We did it this way because no one was expecting it. Everyone out there assumed we'd have a big reveal later. People thought we'd bring Peter back in a year's time -- or right before the next Spider-Man movie," Slott said of the ghostly Peter Parker shortly after the debut of "Superior Spider-Man" #1. "Everyone was so savvy with how this all works that I thought the best way to keep people off their game was to just put that card on the table right from the get go. You're all so sure it was coming -- Well? Here it is! But if you think that's all there is, get ready to be wrong."

Re: The return of Amazing Spider-Man (Slott/Ramos)

How many times does Marvel need to wipe Peter's memory? Sheesh.

Re: The return of Amazing Spider-Man (Slott/Ramos)

How many times have they done it?

I was thinking specifically of One More Day but it was more of a statement, like, "why are they continuing to tell stories that they feel the need to completely erase?"

I'm not trying to be difficult, but I'm confused. Are you referring to them wiping Peter's memory? (I'm still confused as to how that infinite comic fits into the continuity, by the way). Or are you referring to Superior Spider-Man ending and Peter coming back? Or something else entirely?

Wiping his memory. They did it a few years ago in a very major event and completely changed continuity in a HUGE way, and now they are doing the exact same thing.

Well, technically they didn't wipe his memory, they changed the actual history so his memories reflect that. But you're right, it comes to the same thing.

And then they unmasked him and wiped everyone else's memory of that.

But this one… I'm still not sure WHAT'S going on exactly. Do the infinite comics about amnesiac Spidey come between Superior #31 and Amazing #1? are they concurrent with Amazing #1 and he'll be an amnesiac for a while in the regular comics? Or are the infinite comics a completely separate thing? I feel like I can't really make a judgement until I at least know that much.

But even if Spidey does get his memory wiped and doesn't know who he is or what he's doing and doesn't remember his friends and family, that's not quite the same as anything that's come before for Spidey. It's more like Wolverine's story. I don't love the idea, but it makes sense with what's been happening in the book. Ock purged Peter's memories from his brain and then accessed the ones he had already accessed so it would be understandable if there are at least holes in Peter's memories. And again, it won't be forever… and maybe when he gets his memory back he'll remember being married to MJ!

But honestly, they brought Peter back to coincide with the movie. He's even fighting Electro. I really doubt he won't remember who he is.

I thought the question was whether or not he would remember what happened with the whole Superior Spider-Man thing, not who he is.

Oh, that makes more sense with your response then. But that's not what I understood from the solicits.
