The Walking Dead (Image) [SPOILERS]

Picked up the 16th trade yesterday. Thought it was pretty weak and slow. Then again, I know what that usually leads to. Did like the whole Rick killing the kid in self defense and the hilltop people looking at him like he was some kind of monster. Definitely illustrated the sheltered life Hilltop has lived in comparison to what our characters went/go through. Issue #100 is coming out on my birthday. Thanks Image and Kirkman.

I think #100 might have been the darkest issue of the series so far.
Negan beating Glenn to death with a baseball bat while talking about gangbanging Carl?
Jesus Christ!

My main problem with the comic at the moment is how ridiculously evil some of these characters are. Is it possible Kirkman is going too far sometimes?

I feel like this came out of left field. The series was getting too safe. It was definitely needed (maybe not with
Glenn
, but the idea was needed) and I can't wait for Rick to come back and make him pay for what he has done. My only real concern is how can Rick fight back against such a big force. The only way he really had a chance vs the governor, who had a tank, was the prison. Rick and team don't have that big of a fighting force nor do they have much ammunition. I fear that Kirkman may have dug himself a little deep and will have to rely on a deus ex machina to save it.

I don't think so and here's why: they are in a desparate survival situation and it's kill or be killed. And as is the theme with the entire series, it's not with the zombies but with the other survivors. That's going to bring out the worst in certain people, and I think Kirkman has done excellent the entire series with portraying and documenting that. They are ridiculous because they have to be.

Glenn's death was one of the most brutal and meaningful I've ever seen in a comic. It wasn't just a guy dying, it was like a documentary. It was graphic and horrible and made worse because his pregnant wife had to watch! That's horrible.

Agreed on all counts. It has been very status quo for a long time, and while it hasn't been bad, compared with the nonstop insanity earlier in the series it felt like things had slowed down. I also can't wait to see how Rick handles this. I actually want to see him at the mercy of Negan for a while to see how he grows from this. And I can't even imagine what this does to Carl. Yikes.

I kind of feel like there's going to be more consequences and casualties before Rick even has a chance to regroup and get an advantage over the saviors. Didn't someone hint that Darryl was going to show up soon?

RE: #102

I'm glad Rick isn't wussing out like he seemed to be for most of the issue. Although with all that's going on I lost track of who this Jesus is and where he's from, and why Rick trusts him all of the sudden.

This did come from nowhere but it was good timing. Something had to happen. And no Darryl is not gonna be in the comic( or so it said in the letter hack) all and all I like the story's wish they would cover more in one book!

I just started re-reading this and I never realized how much I disliked Tony Moore's art on the first arc. Charlie Adlard's art is much better suited for the tone of the book.

Just read book 17 (#97-#102) and wow that was crazy after the slowness of the previous 2 books.

Me either. It is going to be difficult to wait for the next trade and avoid spoilers from the monthlies in the meantime.

#105. Negan is insane. I didn't think they could top The Governor as far as insanity goes.

And we get a glimpse of what used to be Carl's eye. Nasty.

Carl's missing eye is really grossing me out.

Book 20: All Out War pt 1 ships wed.

Has no one been reading this? I am kind of surprised since I have been waiting for All Out War to begin for a while now and have been pretty happy with the direction this book has taken with all these factions. I would have thought there would have been someone commenting.

I do read it.

This arc with Negan is kind of slow-moving. It's not terrible, but aside from Glen's death in #100 it doesn't feel like a lot is happening. it's building and building and not really reaching what it's building toward.
