This is a timeline for the Mario games, as well as its various spinoffs and crossovers. Credit to Prizm95 for laying the groundworks for this timeline, though I do have a few things on it that I wish to change, as well as add to. His video on the topic can be found here. This timeline is a work in progress.

The Mushroom Kingdom (and surrounding kingdoms, islands, etc) are stated to exist on the Mushroom World. It is also established in the Mario Tennis games that there is permanent, commercial travel to the Mushroom World from Earth (and vice versa) though a portal in the sky. It can be assumed that this connection has been around for a while, hence the similarities between the two planets (eg use of the Gregorian calendar on the Mushroom World).

In the instruction manual for Wario Blast featuring Bomber-Man!, it is established that Wario has travelled to the Bomber-Man universe, thus none of the events in that franchise will be featured here (excluding said game).

In Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, it is established that the Mario and Sonic characters travel from their respective worlds, to Earth. Since Sonic is established to take place on a variant of Earth very different to Earth in the Mario games, it is assumed that the Sonic characters travel from their universe, to the Mario universe. Thus, that franchise will not be featured here.

Mario can be seen as a referee in Punch-Out!!, therefore that franchise is included here.

Rainbow Man is a multiversal crossover between numerous franchises, including Punch-Out!! and Mario. Since Little Mac is helped to become fit enough to box again, then he participates in Fight Night Round 2, is is assumed that the events of Rainbow Man affect its respective franchises - however only franchises in the Mario universe will be documented. Furthermore, Little Mac’s inclusion in Fight Night Round 2 warrants the inclusion of the Fight Night franchise. Thus, those games will be included in the timeline.

Characters from Final Fantasy appear in numerous Mario spinoff games, however due to it always being characters from different Final Fantasy settings and the nature of the Final Fantasy games, these are assumed to either be doppelgängers or extradimensional travellers. The same is true for Dragon Quest.

In SimCity (SNES) the Tokyo scenario features Bowser raging rampage in Tokyo, searching for Mario and Luigi. This lines up with the Mario timeline, as Bowser would be searching for Mario and Luigi in an attempt to stop a prophesy coming true. For this reason, the SimCity games are included on this timeline. Only SimCity games that feature scenarios will be featured.

Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Edition is a crossover between Mario and Dance Dance Revolution. Thus, these games will be included on the timeline.

Starfy from The Legendary Starfy appears in Super Princess Peach, and Wario appears in Densetsu no Starfy 3. Because of this, the Legendary Starfy games will be included.

There are numerous references to Sabre Wulf in the Donkey Kong franchise, as well as Donkey Kong references in Sabre Wulf (Game Bof Advance). Thus, the Sabre Wulf and Killer Instinct games will be included.

Numerous Mario characters appear in the crowd of one of the Kirby games, however the Kirby universe’s depiction of Earth is in a nuclear winter. Since this is not the case for the Mario universe, the Kirby games are not included. There are canonically movies for Kirby and The Legendary Starfy in the Mario Universe, so perhaps the Mario and co’s popularity in the Mushroom World and on Earth warranted their inclusions in Kirby as a cameo.

Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach are playable characters in NBA Street V3. Thus, the NBA Street games will be included on this timeline.

Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach are playable characters in SSX 3. Thus, the SSX games will be included on this timeline.

Many Nintendo characters cameo in various Mario games, such as Link, Samus and Inklings. Due to the impossibility of their games happening in the Mario universe, they are assumed either doppelgängers or extradimensional travellers.

Miis appear in the Mario universe, as well as many other Nintendo games. Miis are a multiversal race across the Nintendo multiverse, so this does not warrant the inclusion of the Mii games.

Mario + Rabbids is a dialogue of games featuring crossovers between the Mario franchise and the Rabbids franchise. Since Rayman appears in the Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope DLC, the Rabbid and Rayman games will be included on this timeline.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam is a crossover between the Mario universe and the Paper Mario universe. The game establishes the Paper Mario universe as a pocket dimension inside of a book, though due to being a book it would be impossible to definitively place the Paper Mario games on this timeline. However, a separate section will be made for their timeline, and the games will be included directly before and after Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam on the simplified order.

Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels is established in the instruction manual to be a parallel universe depicting the events of Super Mario Bros. It will be included on this timeline.

In Super NES Super Scope 6, there is a level where you play as Mario, being pursued by Lemmy Koopa. Thus, these games will be included on this timeline.

Conker from Conker and Banjo from Banjo-Kazooie appear in Diddy Kart Racing. Thus, the Conker and Banjo-Kazooie games will be included on this timeline.

Excitebike: Bun Bun Mario Battle is a crossover between Excitebike and Mario. Thus, Excitebike will be included on this timeline.

Qix Game Boy) features Mario characters. Thus, Qix will be included in this timeline.

Super Mario Bros. 2 is a reskin of Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic. Due to the nature of Super Mario Bros. 2, it can be assumed that both games take place in the Mario universe. Thus, Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic will be included on the timeline.

A select few Tetris games have storylines following Mario characters. None of the other Tetris games have storylines, unless also being crossovers with other franchise. Thus, the Tetris/crossover games will be included on the timeline.

A few of the un-franchised games released by Nintendo (eg Golf for the NES) feature Mario and Luigi (among others). Thus, this genre of Nintendo games that include Mario universe characters will be included.

Due to the sheer amount of games released, often in relatively short spans of time (at least for the older games) simply placing vague games in their release year will not suffice. Because of this, unless stated otherwise, games will be placed on their release dates.

Super Mario Galaxy implies that Power Stars can grant eternal youth, which is possibly why the Mario characters are able to stay so young. This is not wholly the case for every Donkey Kong Character, since Cranky Kong is canonically Donkey Kong from the arcade game, and the current Donkey Kong is canonically Cranky Kong’s grandson. This implies Donkey Kong Jr. is Donkey Kong III’s father.

Sorry some of the colours are so similar, I tried to stay as true to the franchises as possible…

For now I’ve included adaptations/ports that I think are useful for a cohesive playthrough (eg Super Mario 64 DS before Super Mario 64 due to the Yoshi plotline), though I do think it’s worth adding every remake of a game. I probably won’t do plain reskins, but if something adds new (worthwhile) content then I’ll add it
