All About Music Games (Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Whathaveyou)

Also, Activision announced late yesterday Guitar Hero Greatest Hits, featuring songs from GH1-3 and Rock the 80's retooled for the whole band, all covers are to be replaced with masters. They have confirmed a total of 48 songs, the announced setlist so far includes.

"Barracuda" by Heart from Guitar Hero III
"I Love Rock 'n Roll" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts from Guitar Hero
"I Wanna Rock" by Twisted Sister from Guitar Hero Encore Rock the 80's
"Killer Queen" by Queen from Guitar Hero
"Killing in the Name" by Rage Against the Machine from Guitar Hero II
"Nothin' but a Good Time" by Poison from Guitar Hero Encore Rock the 80's
"Them Bones" by Alice in Chains from Guitar Hero II
"Through the Fire and Flames" by DragonForce from Guitar Hero III
"Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd from Guitar Hero II

and I thought I was done with the GH franchise after WT came out (not a bad game, but RB2 rocked my socks). Killer Queen, and Freedbird make this a must buy for me

$250 US for the whole thing is absolutely insane. Who on Earth is going to spend that kind of money in this economy?

That's the most retarded thing they could have possibly done. Why would they include songs from #3 when most people have #3, and 1 & 2 are not playable at all on the PS3. Stupid.

I imagine if you already have the RB or GHWT set ups all you'll need to do is pick up the game itself, Sony made all of these games developers make all their kits inter-changeable.

in reference to GHGH, Uh hello, they are updating to put them on the next generations, with the full band set up. It's a good idea, cause there is a number of songs from 2-3 and 80's that people would like to play on drums and vocals, and I'm sure theres a handful of songs from GH1 that Bass players would like to play. and plus when you go back and look at GH1 and 2's setlists there is some really awesome stuff in there.

Iron Man, Bark at the Moon, Spanish Castle Magic, YYZ, Ziggy Stardust, Texas Flood, Crossroads, Godzilla, I Wanna Be Sedated, Smoke on the Water, Sharp Dressed Man, Cherry Pie, Hush, Strutter, Surrenderr, Sweet Child O' Mine, You Really Got Me, No One Like You, Black Magic Woman, Devil Went Down to Georgia, Paint it Black, Same old Song and Dance, Seeker, Slow Ride, Rock and Roll all Nite, Schools Out, Sunshine of Your Love, Welcome to the Jungle, Rock You Like a Hurricane, it goes on.

Also a new Rock Band Track Pack has been leaked, Rock Band: Classic Rock Track Pack, it is not known whether there will be new songs, or just recycled DLC songs so people without DLC capabililties can expand their library http://ps3.ign.com/articles/960/960064p1.html

So, I am relatively new to the whole RB/GH world. I bought RB first and really dig it. A friend of mine gave me an extra guitar he had laying around and it works great with RB. (although it is kinda jinky once you get used to the RB guitar)

Then he let me borrow a copy of GH 3. (may be 2, I am not home right now to look) Right off the bat I was disappointed by 2 things,

1) they are all covers, which I hate and
2) the RB guitar doesn't work with GH.

Do you know if the guitar compatability issue has been worked out on the new GH games? I'd like to be able to use the RB guitar since that is the one I am used to.

GH3 wasn't all covers, there was probably a healthy dozen and a half or so, but not all. and Wavegroup is a pretty good cover band, their stuff is fine.

I beleive Harmonix released a patch a couple months back, that made the Stratocaster compatible with GH3, if you've updated your RB game recently it should work, I've never tried it mind you so I have no Idea. But EVERY game since is completley interchangeable even Konami's very limp Rock Revolution, I'm not entirely sure about GH Aerosmith though, I think it is interchangeable, but I haven't checked.

Yeah. I checked when I got home and it is GH 2.

Cool. I will check it out. I want to buy the GH 3 & GH AC/DC but not if it isn't compatable with the RB strat. I greatly dislike the GH giutars. I think it is the small buttons.

Thanks.

The AC/DC one is a Rock Band game so no worries, unless you meant the Aerosmith or Metallica games

it wasn't especially good though, its the 18 songs from the live at donnington concert, and Brian Johnson singing Bon Scott songs just doesn't sound right at all, I would have much rather had a greatest hits sort of deal like RB had with the Who for DLC, or a Highway to Hell/Back in Black double album

Uh hello they redesigned all of the instruments to match the Beatles' actual instruments - an obvious push to sell new instruments to people who already have them.

Uh hello, as mandated by Sony all music instrument peripheral designers must make the peripherals compatible with other games and vice versa. RB1, RB2, GHWT, and Rock Revolution, Singstar, all their instruments have to be interchangeable, and that mandate hasn't been lifted.

Unless you really want to play with the same instruments as The Beatles you don't have to buy any of it.

*edit*
The 250$ deal, is just for the limited run PREMIUM edition of the game

All currently available Rock Band peripherals will be compatible with their respective console version of The Beatles: Rock Band. Similarly, newly designed peripherals for The Beatles: Rock Band will be backwards compatible with other Rock Band titles.[1] Controllers from Guitar Hero games will also work with the game.[10] In a press release for the game, it was announced that "a limited number of new hardware offerings modeled after instruments used by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr" would be made available as a premium bundle with the game. Standalone guitar controllers and standalone game software will also be made available separately on September 9, 2009. Premium bundles will be priced at around 250 dollars while standalone guitars will cost around 100 dollars

also I just downloaded Frets on Fire, Ima gonna rock out with my keyboard out

Really? Didn't know that. You just saved me some money!!!

I totally agree, "greatest hits" sounds like a much better idea. That or they should just put out albums for DLC. I'd buy Highway to Hell or Dirty Deeds in a heartbeat.

the good thing about that game is that you can upload the songs to work with Rock band 1 or 2

Beatles Rock Band potentially to be getting unreleased Beatles tracks

Having brought a remarkable multiplayer experience to the music game genre, Rock Band is expected to make a huge impact again when the Beatles: Rock Band launches sometimes this year. Featuring previously successful gameplay and music from one of the most legendary bands the world has ever know, the Beatles: Rock Band will certainly garner its fair share of fans. Perhaps more exciting, however, is news that came from a Billboard interview with Dhani Harrison, son of the Beatle's own George Harrison.

Harrison mentions that the game will feature "stuff that has never been heard, never been released." Although this could just be a fancy way of saying the game -- in general -- will blow your mind, this could potentially indicate that previously unreleased Beatles music will find its way into the game. This is exciting news for any Beatles fan that wants to play along with the memorable tunes.

I'm going to keep updating each week with the newest available DLC once they're posted

As an avid collector of Beatles bootlegs I find this hard to believe. Unless he's talking about stuff that has been leaked via bootleg but never released commercially (i.e. via the Anthology albums), but none of that stuff has ever been considered to be of any quality.
