Anyone Computer Savvy?

Re: Anyone Computer Savy?

So after years of people yelling at me "OMG Internet Explorer sux! Get Firefox before you die from teh suckage!", I finally decided to try it out.

While I'm using it, EVERY TEN SECONDS this message pops up saying "Alert: The connection was refused when attempting to contact spui.nscanada.mercurial.ca.", and it pops back up a second time every time I close it. A lot of images also take longer to load. What's so ****ing great about Firefox? All I want to do now is make IE my default browser again, but I can't figure out how to do that either.

Grr.

I think that means your computer sucks, not Firefox.

Proj is correct. I finally switched to Firefox a month or two ago and I'm very happy with it.

Re: Anyone Computer Savy?

planet-man, what virus scan did you use? and do you update spybot once a week?

i've used firefox for years at home, and at work, and i swear by it.

And before UW asks:

Anyway, first go to Add Remove Programs and uninstall MyWebSearch and also some more. Then fix these:

Y'know, after reading this, I'm glad I quit being a tech support monkey.

That and I'm REALLY glad I switched to Apple.

Bummer. It sounds like you have a BAD case of spyware on your computer and WinFixer is really bad. The only thing I can think of (with the information I got) that you can do is to remove EVERYTHING in your Temporary Internet folder, make SURE that it is empty (if something can't be rmoved use MoveOnBoot to delete them) and after that use FireFox instead of IE. Yes, the problem is that IE downloads a s***load of things from ads on the web that makes your computer to f*** up.

If that doesn't work I would seriously consider reinstalling windows.

I've been using firefox for w few months now. Also that e-mail address HackThis told me to mail to didn't go through. Is there a place where I can find some more help on this?

Well, I have an interesting problem. I recently bought some Steam games (Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike: Source), and, for some reason, everytime I play any of them, my computer crashes. I can't even get into Half Life, and with CS and TF2, I can play for a minute or two and then it freezes, the sound loops, and finally crashes.

Usually, I'd ask this on the Steam forums, except. . .well, it happened in WoW, too. WoW was fine until my girlfriend started to load up some of her chat channels, in which it crashed. So now, I have no idea what to do. Another problem, which may or may not be related, is my computer has slowed down considerably over that past month or so.

Any help would be appreciated. :?
