Why is it that anytime there's a bald comics character to be cast people suddenly forget actors can shave their heads and just immeadiately cast actors who are known for being bald? I mean, if Billy Zane wasn't already bald, would he still be the first person you thought of for Lex Luthor? Nevermind Ed Harris or Arnold Vosloo, who've now been cast as Lex Luthor, Mr. Freeze, Dr. Manhattan, Brainiac and so on, not just on this site but on pretty much any fancasting game on the web.

I mean sometimes a bald guy may happen to be the right choice for the part, but guys, tell me you're not just thinking of them because they're already bald.

It's more that we know most actors have ego's and will refuse to shave their heads. Maybe they'll wear bald caps but you can always tell.

I mean if Gene Hackman refused to shave his head, what hope do we have for anyone else. Let alone Cesar Romero's refusal to even shave his mustache for his role as The Joker.

As you can tell, I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Clancy Brown would still totally make an awesome live-action Lex Luthor, probably the most of anyone who's already played a certain character as a voice actor, except for maybe Michael Rosenbaum as Wally West.

I have a pick for Superman, and I have directors in mind and a general story and tone for the movie, but I'm not going to do a full cast because in most cases I like bluebeast's picks more than who I was considering.

That would mean Superman would have to be Mark Millar. He even has the costume ready.

and Loeb as General Zod!

Not because he deserves the role in anyway, just because he kinda looks like the guy who played Zod in Superman 2.

Gail Simone as Lois Lane?

Billy Zane in so washed up anyways. He was in a Iranian propaganda film like a year back.

I didn't choose Ed Harris for Lex Luthor because he's bald. I chose him for Luthor because he looks and acts like an evil sonova*****. Plus Ed Harris technically isn't bald, he's still got some hair around his temples, he's only bald in the picture I chose (which I admit I chose so he would look more like Lex, but it had nothing to do with why I chose him as Lex). And Ed Harris is old anyways, he doesn't regularly shave his head, he's losing his hair because he's old. Billy Zane and Arnold Vosloo are different stories. And Malcolm McDowell is not bald, and I chose him as Brainiac.

Langsta's cast is awesome.

Thanks.

Mole, I like your choice for Perry White. Bluebeast, I like your choices for Clark and Lex. Darkknight, I like your choice for Lex. Disorder, I think your cast is the finest by far; I especially like your choices for John Corben and Brainiac. Ken Watanabe is a very interesting choice.

SUPERMAN: BIRTHRIGHT

Based on Mark Waid's brilliant take on the Man of Steel's origins, Birthright is a modern retelling of how Clark Kent "became" Superman.

The only difference I'd make is I would change the Kryptonian General from a common Earth mercenary/actor to it being Lex in a facial cloaking disguise based on General Zodd from Kryptonian archives (played by an awesome Karl Urban cameo). During the battle, the cloaking would fail and Superman would see it's actually Lex in a "power" suit. Lex would cause a distraction involving Lois falling from the building and when Superman flies off to save her, Lex would retreat back to his lab and then the film and book would coincide from there…same ending and all.

Superman-BirthrightAlpha.jpg

Eddie Cibrian, Rose Byrne, Bret Harrison, Cirian Hind, Zachary Quinto

Clark Kent/SupermanEddie Cibrian – I don't normally make it a habit of selecting model-turned-actors as major leads or characters…but every now and then, one of them will catch my eye and really impress me. Cibrian is this exception. I first noticed him way back when during his stint on Baywatch Nights. Yes…that show. But where he really impressed me was during NBC's Third Watch. So taking a cue from Donner and Singer's book…I wanna go with an unknown (or relative unknown from a Hollywood standpoint). Cibrian has the look and build (with a slight bulk up plan) to fill the blue tights. Coupled with his natural charm, he'll have no problem channeling the shy, farmboy Kent role…and from what I hear, once you put on the Superman costume…you take on a whole new air of confidence. I see him coming off a bit more serious than Dean Cain's Superman…but not as somber as Routh's.

Lois LaneRose Byrne – 2 words: FX's Damages. I am so serious about this. She has the look, the tenacity, ferocity and vulnerability of Lois Lane. Ourchair has stated that this casting is more brilliant than I realize. Not gonna argue.

Jimmy OlsenBret Harrison – There's something about Bret Harrison that says young and immature like Jimmy. But then there's something about him that screams "on the verge of being his own man"…much like James Olsen. I think this X factor along with his great comedic timing make him a great cast for Olsen. Catch a few episodes of CW's Reaper and you'll see that he's talented enough to hold his own against such iconic counterparts like Superman and Lois, without trying always to steal the show.

Perry WhiteCirian Hind – I'm counting on Hinds' to really steal the show as Perry. I want him serious and constantly telling Lois and Clark that they've got no clue on what it was like to cut your teeth as a journalist when he was coming up…only to begrudgingly succumb to Lois' natural talent as a writer. In my version, Pa Kent is dead and Hinds' will take on the role of Clark's figurative father figure without Perry really even knowing.

Lex LuthorZachary Quinto – First…with Luthor being bald…I'm expecting Quinto's Peter Gallagher-like eyebrows to be prominent throughout the film. Fans of NBC's Heroes can attest to Quinto being the only consistently awesome thing of whom we cannot get enough of.

Alternate Casting

Superman-BirthrightBravo.jpg

Brandon Routh, Rose Byrne, Adam Brody, Brian Cox, Michael Rosenbaum

Clark Kent/SupermanBrandon Routh – Say what you will about Superman Returns, but I think Routh did great as Singer's Superman. Keyword is Singer's. I think to avoid alienating fans and average movie-goers as well as putting the film into production/casting hell, recasting Superman would be a major mistake. Personally, a few costume changes aside, Routh was great as Superman. It's Clark that he failed to really capture. I think if Routh was allowed to loosen up and not try to solemnly imitate Christopher Reeve and just be Birthright's normal Clark Kent, he'd really capture the role perfectly and we can really see a Superman for the 21st century. For a great example of Routh loosened up and having fun, just see Kevin Smith's Zack and Miri Make A Porno.

Lois LaneRose Byrne – Yes I'm sticking with her. It's too perfect to change.

Jimmy OlsenAdam Brody – Although Routh would be allowed to cut loose in this film and portray a "normal" person in this version of Superman…I'd like to use sarcastic Brody to counteract any excessive stoicism on Routh's behalf. I'd really like to have this Jimmy be his own entity. Sure he's still the young pup learning the ropes of reporting…but when Lois calls him Jimmy, I want there to be a slight sarcastic quip coming from Olsen like, "It's…James. You know…what my mom named me. I have a birth certificate confirming this!" All while Lois is still ignoring him. Brody's natural easy going attitude will be a perfect addition to this "heavy" tale of destiny.

Perry WhiteBrian Cox – Brian screaming at everyone the entire film and then saying "Great Cesar's Ghost" once he lays eyes on the alien invasion. Then right back to yelling at everyone and chastising them for running for their lives instead of reporting. You ****ing love it and you know it!

Lex LuthorMichael Rosenbaum – One of the few things that Smallville got right. After several years of being Lex and being surrounded by so much Superman lore with Justice League Unlimited, why not bring Rosenbaum to the big show. Have him bring his version of Luthor (only 5x more ruthless and maniacal) to the big screen. The only big difference between the 2 versions is that Smallville's version doesn't have Lex as the brilliant astrobiologist. Fixed easily.

Whew! Now that that's done. I'll get around to commenting on everyone's casts later.

Actually Yes. I was looking for a blend of obnoxious and "better than you" wealthy. I thought of him in Titanic and a few films and thought of him. It wasn't till i goggled an image that I happened to find one of him bald (which i used)

So yes I was actually thinking of him before I saw him bald. I wanted a type of lex that was pretty much him. Though you may not believe me that is how it happened.

Mole's Cast

Mole aside from your brilliant Perry White casting, I can't say that I'm feeling the others you cast.

Not too keen on your 2 major leads. Other than Coyote Ugly, I can't say that I've seen your guy in anything noteworthy (not that my lead is any different). But my unrelenting hate for Charmed will not allow me to like anyone from that show. Rose McGowan and Alyssa Milano aside (for eye candy reasons only)....everyone else on that show should develop testicular cancer.

Bluebeast's cast

Love your Lois. Love your Perry. Love your Jimmy.

Can see where you're coming from with your Clark. Not my first choice...but not a bad one either. Especially since your going for a Year One kinda story, so the fresh faced Clark is the route you're going.

DarkKnight's cast

Other than your Corben, Ma and Pa Kent...I can't really see it.

I like your Zodd...but I think it should be someone with a bit more "presence".

Disorder's Cast

For the first time in like........ever, I believe.......I don't like your cast. Each choice seems.....off. Not that they're bad actors....but I just can't seem them in these roles.

Your Brainiac choice is truly inspired though. :D

Langsta's cast

A superb cast. Probably the best I've seen this round. Especially when the actors selected so closely fit their All-Star Superman persona.

I cannot find a single fault with this cast.

Houde's Cast

You always do this. But it's these twists of yours that are always funny.

And any cast that includes Ricky Gervais or Elizabeth Hurley are always greenlit in my book.

I agree. I think so far his is by far the best. I'm not too keen on his Lois or Lex, but all in all it's the best.

That is a fun story.

EDIT: Referring to the True Brit comic. Didn't realise there was another page of posts.

Now that I go back and look at Langsta's cast again....while a Ed Harris Lex is ****ing awesome---I don't think he's age appropriate for the All-Star Superman story.

I say this because I think about that one issue with Lex in prison and Clark's interviewing him and they both appear to be about the same age (give or take 5-7 years). Luthor is a picture of human superiority. Healthy....strong....brilliant.

Now maybe pairing Caviezel with age appropriate co-star from The Count of Monte Cristo Guy Pearce as Lex. Then you've really got something.

Thank you guys very much.

I just realized that Ed Harris is a bad pick for All-Star Lex. But it's not the age that irks me....

Harris is perfect for the "businessman/politician" Lex, but I really can't see him playing the "scientist" version of Lex. I probably should have chosen what story to base my movie on before I made the cast. Damn. Well, my movie doesn't draw completely from *** (....they should probably find a better acronym for that), it just takes inspiration from it....Like, even the final villain, I can't see Superman fighting "Solaris" at the end; Luthor's ally would be Brainiac instead (....I know that's extremely predictible). I don't know how that'd tie in with Superman's dying from solar radiation poisoning. I don't know how the prison scene would work now though. But my point is, my movie's not completely based on ***.

What I do know is, I would want the first movie to be about Superman dying from solar radiation poisoning and converting to solar-radio consciousness and going to the Sun to create an artificial heart for it and then the movie having a teaser at the end with Cadmus Labs making a replacement Supes, with the second movie having something to do with a supermassive black hole endangering Earth and the Sun. Shyeah.

Maybe, the first movie starts with a flashback to Krypton's destruction (I know, it's an exhausted plot device) as a result of its supercomputer (Brainiac) withholding information about the planet's unstable condition. Brainiac follows Kal-El to Earth. Fast-forward to the present where Superman learns from Cadmus that he is dying from solar radiation poisoning. Blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda, story, and then Brainiac reveals himself or whatever. He's poisoned the Sun or something and Superman's condition worsens as he converts to solar-radio consciousness. Lex decides to help Superman and they finally break into Brainiac's mind to learn the secret of how to reverse Superman's condition. Superman discovers that the only way to save Earth is to sacrifice himself by fusing with the Sun and creating an artificial heart for it, becoming the Last Sun of Krypton (get it?). Cadmus makes a replacement Supes. Second movie, uh....damn. Something to do with a black hole. Swallowin' the Sun, and thrustin' Superman in time 1(with one hundred zeroes after it) years into the future through a wormhole. It is in this future where Superman finds himself face-to-face with the last supermassive black hole in the universe, and it's about to "dissipate," swallowing the universe and restarting existence.

So, I've got a plot, but I can't figure out who would play Clark.

I do have a Lex, however:
