What did you think of Star Trek?

My girlfriend is really into Star Trek, despite never having really followed the original crew AT ALL.

I recently brought her up to speed with Wrath of Khan (as well as The Undiscovered Country).

She totally fell in love with Khan, describing him as "He's so hot it's insane."

I didn't see that one coming.

Don't let her see Fantasy Island, then...the Ricardo Montalban and midget duo could start giving her ideas.
 
This is the best film i've seen all year... Coraline might have it beat in sheer quality, but this films very few weak points are outdone by its astounding enjoyability.

Seriously... I want this cast to be doing Star Trek movies for the next 15 years.

Okay, Lucas, the Trekkies are winning for the first time in almost twenty years. Trouble is, I don't think Star Wars is capable of a renewal like the one I just witnessed in the move theaters. Sucks to be them.
 
Saw the movie last night - fun and entertaining. I think that fans of the original series - unless they are determined not to like anything not made with the original cast - will enjoy it. And I suspect that those NOT so familiar with the original series will enjoy it and find themselves intrigued.

The casting and performances were terrific, esp the "main three' of Kirk, Spock and McCoy. Not easy to portray a Kirk who is brash, headstrong, daring, but also SMART, but they did a nice job of it. And Spock and McCoy were terrific without at any point becoming characitures of the Nimoy/Kelly originals.

Great launch, great reboot, great way to breathe new life into the franchise. Looking forward to more!

Saw it last night, by far the most entertaining action film since Iron Man in my opinion. I'm doubting that anything this summer, Transformers GI Joe Terminator, will be able to match this let alone top this.

I knew nothing about Star Trek but I left this a huge fan. I hope this turns into a huge franchise with these main players. All of the characters were great. Sulu, McCoy, Uhura, Chekov and Scotty were all fantasticly played and Bana as Nero was epic. Nothing topped Pine as Kirk and Quinto as Spock just for the shear badassery that those characters exuded. And of course Nimoy coming back to play the elder Spock was awesome and this was the best use of time travel I've seen in a movie. 5 stars hands down and the best film of the year so far.
 
And I just thought of this. Does this film insinuate that the Beasty Boys are classical music that survive 200 years later? Sweet.
 
Saw this the other day. What can I say, it was great. All of the members of the Enterprise were played to perfection. Pine, Quinto, and Urban in particular. I don't think I've ever seen space look as cool as it does in this movie. As I've said, this is by far the best movie of the year so far. I too can't imagine any other movie this summer topping this. This is certainly in the same league as Iron Man and The Dark Knight. I can't wait to see what they do in the sequels. This is probably a better reboot than both Batman Begins and Casino Royal, and that's saying something. Near perfect.

I saw this last night. Great, and I know only the basics of Star Trek.

The Vulcan schoolyard bullies and Scott Pilgrim were hilarious, and Spock meeting Spock and the "we're picking up another ship, sir," scenes made me cheer.

I didn't like the low tech look for some of the sets. Rivets and tubes look out of place in the tech of the time.


Would it not be logical for Spock to now try his best to propagate his species and therefore nix the Uhura relationship?

Weren't your criticisms concerning how it had little to do with the Star Trek you loved? I'm pretty sure most of the people that loved it had little to no connection to Star Trek and hence this isn't a criticism with us.

No, I had plot specific critiscisms as well.

It was a fun action movie, and I liked it a lot, but it's not a 5 star movie, the best thing ever, or probably not even the best movie of the summer (I can't prove that yet).

But then, you guys had the same idea of Transformers when it came out, and that was a hunk of ****.

How so? I'm not familiar with much of the original Star Trek series, so I don't know if ages are changed or whatever, but it was implied that the attack on the USS Calvin was a big deal. Pike did his dissertation on it, it was an important moment in Federation history, that certainly could affect the development of technology. As for Spock and Uhura's relationship, I would assume that it's possible that they had a relationship in the orginal timeline that just was never addressed in the show. Maybe it even happened before they were on the Enterprise, but the appearance of Nero changed the timeline so they were on the Enterprise before they were suppoesd to be. All of that makes sense to me. I'm not sure what was wrong with the timeline before Nero showed up that you're upset about, but again, I'm sort of ignorant about such things.

I don't see how changing the tone is such a big deal. They are retelling Star Trek to a new generation. And in my opinion, they did it in a fun way without making it dumb (like Mel Bay did in Transformers).

Did Nero even know Spock was going to be coming through the worm hole? It seemed to me that when he took the Captain of the USS Calvin (the leader of the 10 Rings from Iron Man, by the way) aboard his ship he was surprised to hear that he didn't know who Spock was and only at that point realized that maybe he was in a different time. So yeah, was he waiting for Spock from his time to come through, or was he waiting for past Spock to grow up and join the Enterprise? So yeah, I was a bit confused about that point too.

And Old-Spok didn't put the Federation in jeopardy to prove a point, he decided not to get involved in the development of his and Kirk's friendship b/c he knew that if he did, their friendship wouldn't be the same. He also showed his willingness to have faith in his friends against logic, showing the distinction between young Spock and old Spock. I thought that was rather poigniant.

And, yeah, you're right about the black hole.

Actually, apparently I'm worng about the black hole. Supposedly at some point Spock and the Romulans warped out of the solar system to another place where the black hole occured. I was not aware of this happening and was told lately, so. . . that's another failure on the director.
