This book keeps getting dumber and dumber. I refer to the death row escape of Spider Slayer and his robot things turning Boomerang, Scorpion, and Vulture in cyborgs.
I hate that I feel the need to keep up on what's happening in this book.
I was talking to the guy that runs the comic store I go to and he said this is, by far, his best selling book. Bigger than The Walking Dead, even.
I don't get it.

JG Jones is amazing and that is a great cover.
Too bad they can't have him doing anything for a book that's good. Because this is Marvel's worst book, hands down.
This last arc is/was unbearable. Every time anyone does anything, no matter how unexpected or unbelievable it is -- surprise! Their foe already thought of it and had a countermeasure in place.
And that's not even getting into the just plain dumb ideas being shown in this stupid book. J. Jonah Jamison literally gave The Raft to Spider-Man for him to use as a super hero base. I can barely type the words because my hands are averse to churning out idiocy like this.
It's baffling to me how Marvel can publish something as good as Hawkeye, Uncanny Avengers, and Daredevil and also put out this garbage at the same time.

So I just read the first five issues of Superior Spider-Man, as well as some of the Avenging Spider-Man issues that deal with Spider-Ock. I hate it. This isn't Spider-Man. I don't want to be over the top, but I honestly don't think I've ever read a Spider-Man story that so thoroughly missed the point of Spider-Man.
Sins Past and OMD both upset me, but this comic just kills me. I just... I can't even... Gah!

Wait until you see how Slott handles MJ. I don't think I've ever been so pissed off about a comic before.
Don't get me wrong - I can't stand this book and am not defending it, but I think that is the point. Doc Ock is proving he's better than Peter by doing the opposite of what Peter did or would do, and he's finding great success for the most part.

I think that's flat out the opposite of the point.
SpOck is exercising a pragmatic approach to the Spider-Man identity, driven by his own ego instead of a sense of responsibility. While he's done some things quite well (and I'm sure when Pete returns there will be some lessons taken and applied to his own approach to crime fighting), he's methodically dismantling Spidey's relationship with his friends and allies, betraying his trust with the public he's served to protect, and violating that delicate balance between humanity and justice. If you've been paying any attention to the book at all, you'll see a deliberate and shaky house of cards being built that's poised to come tumbling down around Otto's head. I think it's quite good, and every bit in step with the heart of the character. It's positing why a superior Spider-Man isn't better at all, why humility is an integral part of who the character is. Of course, that's predicated on the story ending, and ending disastrously, but I don't think most people had any doubt that was the plan all along.
But for the haters, Bleeding Cool is rumoring that the series will be ending with issue 30 and a Spidey relaunch will be hitting in April to coincide with the release of ASM2.

First,the weekly format is great. It's great for people like me who aren't engrossed in the story because it's there every week. So it's kind of like it's constantly on my mind because it's constantly there to read. I do not like the book, but because of this I think it's holding my interest more than if it were monthly.
That said, I'm not paying for it, so I would imagine people who are don't think the format is great if they had to spend $16 a month on this book alone.
The other thing is the design of Spider-Man with the Venom symboite is really, really cool. And Doc Ock Spidey uses him in cool ways, mimicking the Octopus arms.

weekly? Isn't it twice a month? Are you including Superior Spider-Man Team-Up?
Anyway, now that this is ending, I picked up all the issues I missed from eBay and have been reading it. I've read through issue 16 so far, I really don't like it, EXCEPT the behind the scenes Green Goblin stuff has me intrigued. I'm going to be buying the last few issues as they come out b/c I love Green Goblin as a Spidey villain and I want to see how this Superior story ends and Peter comes back.
I've missed reading Spider-Man.
EDIT: Okay, so now I've read through issue #21. The Spider-Man 2099 story was pretty cool. Setting up Horizon to become Alchemax, the reappearance of Liz Allen and Normie, linking Tyrell Stone to Tyler Stone, and Miguel stuck in the present were all really interesting. The only thing I didn't like about the story was Spidey - although the part with him accessing Peter's memories again and the silhouette of Peter freeing himself from the rubble was cool too.
