Re: Top 10 favorite comics currently

Right now, I'll name my #1. And that's:

NEW X-MEN

As I have posted here, it's currently a book that's taking more chances with doing something more interesting than the other current X-Books that are out right now, with yes, including Astonishing. The writers are doing a great job with the book, and I'm just loving every panel of it.

New X-Men is good.....but still not good enough to be in the Top 10.

I do enjoy all the chances they are taking. With what happened to Wallflower in the last pages......wow. How blunt.

I also loved the lesson Colossus was tring to teach in the beginning.

Before these writers, maybe. I liked the previous writers, though they were heavily on character development (which is a good thing). But now with Yost and Kyler, they're stepping up more than a notch with this book, which is more interesting than the other X-Books to me at the moment.

You must be reading some pretty crap books.

Re: Top 10 favorite comics currently

Wow....so my last list was strictly Marvel. Since then I've decided to pick up some DC stuff.

So here's my new listing along with why. Here we go...

Old Standings
10 - Samurai Executioner
9 - New Avengers
8 - Runaways
7 - Daredevil
6 - Capt America
5 - Books of Doom
4 - Punisher MAX
3 - Ultimates
2 - Daughters of the Dragon
1 - Ares

New Standings
10 - Supergirl - When you read this along with watching the JLU cartoon...you just feel there's this underlying fact that one day she could be greater than her famous cousin. So it's fun watching the journey to greatness

9 - Superman/Batman - I love the 2-sided thought boxes. Both are either thinking the same thing or the exact opposite and either way...they work together in sync. It also gives you insight to the characters. Batman regards Superman as the greatest hero of all. Even though he's an alien...he's more human than anyone else. That thought is reiterated in the Supergirl arc where Kara says than he could better than any of them (humans). He replies back to her saying "There is no them....just us." That just drove it home for me....

8 - Punisher MAX - To me....probably the greatest version of Frank Castle. The stories are gritty yet over the top. It just goes to show what kinda one-man army Frank really is.

7 - Daredevil - Never read this title before Brubaker. But after several recommendations....I checked it out and I am now blown away at it. If you need proof on how awesome this comic is....go buy #84. Read the first 3 pages. Then stand there and tell me how this is not great. I can make you a promise more solid than the fact that Jack Bauer has bad days. That promise is that I'll punch you in the gut and call you a liar.

6 - Capt America - Every American's hero. He will never back down froma challenge. He might be able to fly or lift buildings. But if you've got a body...he's gonna pound it....and win.

5 - Ultimates - no explanation need.

4 - Infinite Crisis - Even if you get rid of all the tie-ins and special events and everything else....it's still a great story. The magnitutde of this event spreads thru all of the DC comics. Just one of the best.....

3 - All-Star Superman - O Sweet Big Baby Jesus!!! This is just a great story. It's Pre-Crisis Superman....without the continuity. It's Ultimate Superman.

2 - Daughters of the Dragon - why make a statement when I've already made a thread...

1 - Ares - Ditto

Re: Top 10 favorite comics currently

Again, in no particular order:

Runaways - Picking this up in digests, it rocks
The Ultimates - Of course, it's Millar/Hitch
Y: The Last Man - BKV
Ex Machina - BKV
Fables - Started this recently, one of my favourite series
Captain America - Brubaker
Daredevil - Brubaker rocks on this title
Superman - This crossover is awesome
Action Comics - Same here
All-Star Superman - It's fun

Most of it is BKV/Brubaker, but they're my favourite writers.

Off-topic for one milli-micro-second:

jeremiahvedder, have you been to the Archenemies website yet, you need to check the writers articles about creating the comic? It's a good book that deserves support and it is pretty funny.

In all my naievety, it never occured to me that there might be a website for the book... But now that you mention it, I'll fire up GOOGLE and see this wondrous thing of which you speak. But, yeah, you're right... ARCHENEMIES has a lot of potential.
