Ultimate X-Men: Absolute Power (#94-97)

Re: Ultimate X-Men #94 discussion (spoilers)

I dunno.

I didn't hate the issue. There really wasn't much to like, but I didn't hate it. Although it moved too fast, jumping all over the place.

If there wasn't a writer's strike, this arc wouldn't exist.

Re: Ultimate X-Men #94 discussion (spoilers)

i read this issue today when i bought the ultimate human hardcover.... i thought it was pretty good until i saw angel on the last page. I thought two things:

1. That better NOT be ultimate archangel.

2. J.D. from scrubs yelling EAGLE!!!!

so sasquatch has a history with rogue. that seem interesting to me. so far i like ultimate alpha flight from what i've seen. hopefully this arc will be better than that Apoc arc.

This was a mess.

I remember when Ultimate X-men was good and something exciting.

Now it is cliche superhero nonsense.

In terms of characters, there's cool stuff going on. The termoil on the team after Apocalypse is cool... It's just I think this is too filler-esque for my taste. He wants to do something different, but lacks in relevance.

Or plot.

It's rather thin on plot and relies too much on stuff happen too fast for the X-Men to keep up.

Re: Ultimate X-Men #94 discussion (spoilers)

I feel like there's interesting ideas at the core of the story, but it feels so abrupt, that we aren't given the proper foreshadowing to actually believe these kids are willing to become junkies overnight.

Does anyone else get the impression that this is an abruptly force-fed lead-in towards Loeb's Ultimatum? Like, "Well, we've got to quickly introduce secondary mutations and MGH real quick so Ultimatum can be about the threat of what mutants are evolving into. You've got four issues. Oh, and introduce Alpha Flight too!"

Edit: Just finished. God. This is Winnick-level writing.

It is only the first issue and am willing to give Coleite the benefit of the doubt. But if there aren't some major improvements in the next issue, I think its safe to conclude that Kirkman and Coleite were merely softening up UXM's reading audience for the immense sucktitude of Ultimatum. The idea being, since the book sucked anyway, giving it a sucky, sucktastic, suffering SUCKatash ending in Ultimatum won't be so bad, comparatively speaking.

Thats my theory, anyway.

He's talking about this playing on the perception of Americans right now? Could be that we come off as bullies from the looks of those pages.

The last page of last issue. They took the Banshee drug and amped up their mutations. Beak is actually Angel. And Nightcrawler, Rogue, and Dazzler's powers (along with Colossus and possibly Cyclops) were all increased by the drug.

i thought that angel died??

Re: Ultimate X-Men #95 discussion (spoilers) Preview included.

Angel was brought back to live by Kirkman's last issue, along with anyone else who died.

So, one of the Alpha Flight characters said something along the lines of "I'm not a magician", right? Does that mean this new guy is revising Kirkman's original character?
