Final Crisis series discussion [spoilers]

Is that the same one who keeps declining your obvious sexual advances? But then gave up because a raise was worth more than her dignity?

No. After I motorboated that last new hire, the judge decided girls aren't allowed to work for me anymore. So I had to build a robot chimp to help out around the office.

This is in this week's Lying in the Gutters:

This is the first I've seen anyone suggest that Batman became a New God. Is he right? I don't understand how he gets that out of that.

That was a rumor, and I guess it's kind of technically true. Everyone in the DCU is now a god of the Fifth World. They've all dreamed themselves back into being after the usurpation of the old gods. So that makes Batman a New God too.

Gaiman's "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?" is actually pretty awesome, and ties in fine with the whole, "Omega Sanction" idea.

So, according to Leigion of Three worlds, Bart Allen is back in action.

Here's hoping it stays that way.

I have finished my reread of Final Crisis. It was decent. My opinion remains the same - lots of interesting ideas but a flawed execution. Probably the most... original comic event I've read.

I don't know how people who didn't read the Morrison Final Crisis tie in issues knew what was happening though.

I've been reading Zenith. It does the multiversal war thing a thousand times better than FC (which was still pretty alright).

No, that's cool. It's like the only way to get it. I had originally downloaded it but lost it all in a computer crash. I'll download it again one day when I've ran out of Morrison comics to read (almost there!).

So... Batman speculation? How long is it until we see him again? I'm thinking that if Batman and Robin is the fourth book in Morrison's five book series, we might see more of Bruce Wayne lost in the Omega Sanction in the fifth book. I'm not sure what he'll be up to but I'm sure it's pretty neat.

It's surprisingly good considering how early it is in his career. It's actually up there as one of my favorite Morrison books.

I'm Batman and Robin is the second novel in his series. I bet we'll be seeing Bruce in some form or another in about a year.

New Wired interview with Grant Morrison. Featuring this awesome cover for the hardcover:

I love this quote from the wired interview

To get into his head, I had to consider people like him in the real world and there were no shortage of candidates. The emissaries of Darkseid seemed to be everywhere, intent on crushing hope, or shattering human self-esteem. I began to hear his voice in every magazine headline accusing some poor young girl of being too fat or too thin. Darkseid was there in the newscasters screaming financial disaster and planet-doom. It was that sick old bastard's voice terrifying children with his hopeless message of a canceled future, demanding old ladies turn off their electric blankets to help "save the planet," while turning a blind eye to corporate ecocide.

Up against that, all we had to offer were the wise words of Pico Della Mirandola and Superman singing a song to break your heart. I had to grind America's superheroes down so hard there was nothing left but diamond in the dark. Everything was falling into a black hole, even the story structure ... and fans on message boards were going to war over the thing, screaming "genius" and "gibberish" at one another. It was quite unpleasant to be at the heart of all that but also strangely exhilarating.

I think his idea of darkseids presence in our world is pretty eerie. and makes me think twice about the corniness of the singing bit.

I also think it's a little life-imitating-art that there are so many people getting really argumentative about wether this is any good or not. anti-life

I have the hardcover edition and am about halfway through it. I'm taking my time and reading some annotations as I go along.

I do love the cover despite what I said 2 posts up. I just wish the trade dress looked more like the issues. The actual art is awesome.

Having read this once and being halfway through a detailed second reading, it's comical to me that we actually had a discussion over what was better between this and Secret Invasion.

There are 2 concepts that have been introduced that are just too mind-blowingly cool to allow this to be compared with the non-event that was Secret Invasion. The first is the idea of a bullet fired backward through time (and having Flash chasing it and arriving "back to life"). The second is actually in the Superman Beyond tie in, which is included in the FC hardcover - a book with an infinite number of pages being uploaded into a ship with infinite memory so that it can fix itself.

Awesome.

So I know I'm a little late and all, but i finally got around to finishing the Legion of 3 worlds mini. It seems like it's own seperate event, that happened to come out at the same time as final crisis. And it'd probably have stood up better had that been the case. anyway the series had some nice premises but i feel a little dissappointed, a little like infinite crisis there's loads crammed in here, but i can't tell if the balance is right.

they never redeemed superboy prime, the time trapper suggestion was an awsome one that i would have liked to see developed more. He's a sentient rogue timeline! that was an awsome line. I'd also like to see the timeline where SBP ends up as time trapper cuz that's gotta be a story in itself. However I liked SBP's ending stuck back in earth prime, where his family has been reading his adventures.

They also brought back kid flash and superboy....I'm not sure how i feel about this. Superboy's resurrection was done in a decent way as it mirrored supermans...and he didn't stay dead all that long either. and i'm glad he's back. but it just felt like one more thing to cram into this story.

Kid flash's return i'm a little bit meh about. It kinda seems like he died for no reason too. I think this is the bit that annoyed me the most. There's loads of legionairres running around in lightning saga bringing back wally like he was gonna be important....i still don't really get why this happened. Still undecided....I think I'll prob read it again.

It happened because they had Johns do what he does best. Fix their mistakes. They shouldn't have killed Conner and shouldn't have killed Bart so he undid them. The mans been doing it for years. Hell, the first half of his JSA run was fix Zero Hour mistakes and bring back a proper Hawkman.

As for Legion of 3 Worlds, I enjoyed it, but then I didn't have to wait the year or so for it, I just bought all the singles the week #5 came out. And I loved Superboy Prime being stuck with people who know exactly what he did.

I can't say I'm looking forward to his return in Adventure tho. That really felt like it should have been the end of the character for a while.

Everything in this post is correct.

The weird thing was hand-picking the coolest Legionnaires from the Zero Hour continuity and shuffling them off into pre-Crisis continuity.

Yes the man is good. But it was him that killed superboy in infinite crisis. I was also led to believe that Bart Allens death was an editorial thing Johns probably has some sway in. Perhaps to fix the mistake of aging Bart prematurely - again this was Johns in infinite crisis. So if he's now just fixing his own mistakes it's not quite as impressive.

Yes I agree. SPB's ending was superb and I'm not crazy about him returning too soon. I will read this first run of adventure however - and I'm glad superboy (normal) is back.

Edit: Also, when superman brought Bart back to a load of DCU heroes, there was only 1 flash. I don't know if it was Wally or Barry, but I'd have thought both should be there. but this is a continuity gripe more than anything.
