Thought I'd give this a shot, there has been a severe lack of talk on all things Rock Band and Guitar Hero lately, and I've come to the conclusion that it's because there really isn't a proper thread to discuss them, GHWT was folded into the GH3 thread I think, my RB2 thread didn't have 1 (!) reply, and the bulk of these discussions has migrated to the Random Gaming thread. I suppose this thread could work for other music games ala Samba De Amigo, WiiMusic, Rock Revolution, DDR, Beatmania, Guitarfreaks, Singstar, whatever too.
Anywho Iceshadow was wondering about GHWT see:
Well I rented, it and to put it simply it's o.k. a perfectly serviceable game, I have some significant issue's with the game's overall design and lack of polish, but it's still a fun game and thats all that really matters. I've only played it with my RB2 Stratocaster so I can't report on all the peripheral issue's floating around on the net (unresponsive cymbols, crosstalk on drum pads, insensitive touch pad), or the drum/mic/new GH guitar play.
I have noticed some major issue's with the sound though, Willie Nelsons "On the Road Again" sounds like it's being sang by Stephen Colbert (I swear). Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" the vocals sound NOTHING like Ronnie Van Zant, they must have used a Johnny Van Zant version. I know they said that these would all be master versions, but I don't buy it.
The setlist is pretty cool I haven't spent alot of time rooting around with the songs I don't immediatley recognize so I can't say alot about it, There is a number of songs that double up with Rock Band 2's setlist which I found dissapointing, and a couple of questionable song picks like Stranglehold by Ted Nugent (How can you pick a Ted Nugent song and not have it be Cat Scratch Fever?), Love Removal Machine by the Cult (She Sells Sanctuary Hello?), Hotel California over Life in the Fastlane by the Eagles, Hot For Teacher over Panama, a few head scratchers there but thats probably due to personal taste. But the mere presence of Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, CCR, The Doors, Willie Nelson, Ozzy, makes it all worth it (if you haven't guessed I'm a classic rock nut).
To me, it doesn't live up to it's hype as the Rock Band killer, it's basically GH3 with drums and vocals, they spent so much time adding new stuff, but never went backed and fixed what wasn't working anymore (It's loosey goosey, bad note charting, too much neon all over the place etc.). personally I'm going to stick with Rock Band 2, but if your a GH purist, or your playing on Wii (WiiGH has DLC, WiiRB doesn't) or live in Australia (RB1 hasn't even been released there) this is the game for you.
That came out far more critical than I intend it, it's still good game, I think a bit of my RB bias dripped through, I tried to keep it contained but what can you do. I'd give it a 7.5/10
I'll post a Rock Band 2 review tomorrow, and I swear I won't be singing to the high heavens about every aspect of the game.

So anyone pick up the new guitar hero?
