Thought I'd give this a shot, there has been a severe lack of talk on all things Rock Band and Guitar Hero lately, and I've come to the conclusion that it's because there really isn't a proper thread to discuss them, GHWT was folded into the GH3 thread I think, my RB2 thread didn't have 1 (!) reply, and the bulk of these discussions has migrated to the Random Gaming thread. I suppose this thread could work for other music games ala Samba De Amigo, WiiMusic, Rock Revolution, DDR, Beatmania, Guitarfreaks, Singstar, whatever too.

Anywho Iceshadow was wondering about GHWT see:

So anyone pick up the new guitar hero?

Well I rented, it and to put it simply it's o.k. a perfectly serviceable game, I have some significant issue's with the game's overall design and lack of polish, but it's still a fun game and thats all that really matters. I've only played it with my RB2 Stratocaster so I can't report on all the peripheral issue's floating around on the net (unresponsive cymbols, crosstalk on drum pads, insensitive touch pad), or the drum/mic/new GH guitar play.

I have noticed some major issue's with the sound though, Willie Nelsons "On the Road Again" sounds like it's being sang by Stephen Colbert (I swear). Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" the vocals sound NOTHING like Ronnie Van Zant, they must have used a Johnny Van Zant version. I know they said that these would all be master versions, but I don't buy it.

The setlist is pretty cool I haven't spent alot of time rooting around with the songs I don't immediatley recognize so I can't say alot about it, There is a number of songs that double up with Rock Band 2's setlist which I found dissapointing, and a couple of questionable song picks like Stranglehold by Ted Nugent (How can you pick a Ted Nugent song and not have it be Cat Scratch Fever?), Love Removal Machine by the Cult (She Sells Sanctuary Hello?), Hotel California over Life in the Fastlane by the Eagles, Hot For Teacher over Panama, a few head scratchers there but thats probably due to personal taste. But the mere presence of Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, CCR, The Doors, Willie Nelson, Ozzy, makes it all worth it (if you haven't guessed I'm a classic rock nut).

To me, it doesn't live up to it's hype as the Rock Band killer, it's basically GH3 with drums and vocals, they spent so much time adding new stuff, but never went backed and fixed what wasn't working anymore (It's loosey goosey, bad note charting, too much neon all over the place etc.). personally I'm going to stick with Rock Band 2, but if your a GH purist, or your playing on Wii (WiiGH has DLC, WiiRB doesn't) or live in Australia (RB1 hasn't even been released there) this is the game for you.

That came out far more critical than I intend it, it's still good game, I think a bit of my RB bias dripped through, I tried to keep it contained but what can you do. I'd give it a 7.5/10

I'll post a Rock Band 2 review tomorrow, and I swear I won't be singing to the high heavens about every aspect of the game.

In Asia, music and rhythm games are SO end of the 20th century.

Though I will concede that the Yanqui game known as Guitar Hero is like a much better version of Guitar Freaks .

So it looks like the next round of RB Vs. GH is already lined up

Rock Band: AC/DC - Live at Donnington Track Pack
Guitar Hero: Metallica

No word on wether or not GHM will support drums and Mic play yet, but here's a teaser trailer

and a shot of RB-ACDC in action (warning the Ign team sucks)

Oh My God

I read the news today oh boy.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/925/925216p1.html

An announcement may be coming tomorrow, stating that The Beatles may be coming to Rock Band, whether as DLC or something in the vain of the AC/DC track pack is unknown, but still.
Oh wow. I was considering asking for the new Guitar Hero for Christmas because I like the features it has that Rock Band doesn't but I much prefer Rock Band 2's tracklisting.

If there will be Beatles songs in Rock Band 2 - either through download or something else - then my decision has basically been made.

I own both, and enjoy the hell out of both.
That said, Rock Band 2 is much more fun and has a better design, in pretty much every possibly way.
Guitar Hero: world Tour has a few good songs exclusive, though. Tool and Ozzy Osbourn, and Muse, Beat It, and Hotel California come to mind.
Rock Band has a billion cajillion DLC tracks and, apparently, the Beatles.

Yeah.
Rock Band is where it's at.

I'm confused about the compatibility issue.

Will the Guitar Hero 3 wireless guitar for PS3 work with Rock Band 2?

See I don't really care much about the songs/artists you mentioned from Guitar Hero: World Tour. Rock Band 2 on the other hand, has "Tangled Up in Blue" and "Pump it Up", both of which I'd absolutely kill to play. Guitar Hero's tracks seem to still be more hard rock focused, which doesn't appeal to me. I like Rock Band 2's diversity.

If all of the GH:WT hardware is confirmed as compatible for RBII on the Wii (and there is a very good chance it will be) then I will get both.

That's how I feel about GHWT too, when I was playing the handful of songs I really enjoyed, I was thinking "Man I wish this song was in Rock Band" not a favorable train of thought fof GHWT.

I think it should work, I remember reading that the patch that opened the Song upload option in RB1 also activated that patch that Harmonix was trying to push through to make the Les Paul work with Rock Band

I imagine that since everything is intercompatible on all the other system's that it would work translate over onto Wii

Also the tracklist for Guitar Hero: On Tour - Decades on Nintendo DS was announced today

Alien Ant Farm - "Smooth Criminal"
The All-American Rejects - "Dirty Little Secret"

Sammy Hagar - "I Can't Drive 55"
Seether - "Remedy"
Smashing Pumpkins - "Tarantula"
Stone Temple Pilots - "Down"
Veruca Salt - "Volcano Girls"
Weezer - "Buddy Holly"

Queen, they got Queen, now I need to dig out my DS

I think a better Queen song would have been "Fat Bottom Girls", "We Are The Champions" is too short, but yeah I wish they had put half of these songs on World Tour.

Apparently The Beatles may not neccesarily be coming to Rock Band itself, but an all new stand-alone title by Harmonix featuring The Beatles music is on the way, with input from Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon, and Olivia Harrison.

A couple of quote's in the article seem to imply that The Beatles are coming to Rock Band, while an article on EW says it's a standalone title. maybe it'll be a stand alone game with an export key.

On Tour: Decades got so many songs I want in Rock Band.
"I Believe in a Thing Called Love" :(

And I will purchase this Beatles game (which is, according to the press conference, built from the ground up. AC/DC track pack this isn't (though they did not deny the chance of an export code)).

It would be awesome if there was a point in The Beatles game where you had to guitar duel Yoko Ono in order to keep the Band together, but the music would be "Through the Fire and Flames" hard.

So I joined the Rock Band forums a couple days ago and found a thread where you can lay out what you would make the next 6 months worth of DLC if you were in charge, I spent about 3 hours putting together a list, I thought I`d post it here aswell, because I don`t want to see something a put so much time into torn to shreds by people I don`t know because it doesn`t have any songs under 10 years of age in it. so here it goes

The newest song in this list is about 10 years old, and I`m not apologizing about it

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm going to give this a shot, warning I probably won't get many new songs in there, because I don't follow new music, the latest band I listen to on a regular basis is Gun's N' Roses, and they started over 20 years ago, I don't go out of my way avoiding new stufff, just kinda found my niche and I'm happy with it, I'll try to spread it around though.

So. Freaking. Awesome.

Having got only the Wii version of GHWT, I was only able to play 3 songs from Death Magnetic. I really wanted to try All Nightmare Long and lo and behold!

I haven't picked up either of these yet. I have a question for anyone who has, though. Months ago before either of them were released, I was reading an article that said GHWT would have some sort of music creation tools and similar features in it. I was wondering if that is indeed the case, and how it works exactly.

I suppose I could scour google for some resources about all of that, but I'm feeling lazy.

Anyone?

Yes there is one, but in my experience it isn't any good, everything comes out sounding like ringtones.

And it works exactly how you'd imagine it could work, A) you can record random jams, and alter it to fit some sort of melody, or B) you can place the notes individually, and map it out before playing it.

There's a number of alteration effects, and so on aswell

So. Freaking. Awesome.

Glad your looking forward to it, I see only 4 songs on that list that appeal to me; Thin Lizzy, Queen, Bob Seger, and Skynyrd

I'll probably give this a rent to play those songs, but this looks like the first GH game I'm going to pass on

In other news Activision is creating an adapter that lets you use two Bass pedals for their drumset, which will help drummers with these metal songs and all the double bass drum strings. No word if the adapter will work with RB's drums though.
