Punisher (2009) series discussion (was Punisher War Journal) [spoilers]

Re: Punisher War Journal series discussion *Spoilers*

It's basically just Frank Castle's version of Civil War #6.

It shows him performing little attacks with Captain America, and we get some insight to what is going on.

Bridge is still trying to track him down. That guy with the little Iron Kids gives Frank that ninja technology suit he uses to break into the Baxter Building.

It ends with the scene in Civil War #6, with Cap attacking Frank.

Kind of dull, really. It's alright now, but I think this book is either going to get better after Civil War, when it will have it's own stories to tell, or it will get worse, if Fraction is just writing Civil War with Frank's take on it.

I don't think this is supposed to continue afte CW. I thought they just brought it back for his part of CW and that's it.

It's an ongoing. I know the first 3 issues focus on Frank's part in Civil War, #4is the Stilt Man's funeral, and I believe #5 is the beginning of a new arc.

Re: Punisher War Journal series discussion *Spoilers*

This is really disappointing. Matt Fraction's just writing Civil War through the Punisher's eyes... and doing it all wrong. It doesn't make sense if he changes the scenes and the dialogue around from the main mini. If he's going to do the same thing, he should at least keep it the same.

Fraction, you have disappointed me. Stick with Iron Fist.

...Well, I liked the first issue. 2 and 3 were pretty "meh". I already bought Civil War #6, so why would I buy it again?

This reminds me why MAX is so much better than everything else. I have VVD to thank for getting me into it.

My thoughts exactly.

I think it'll get alot better once we're done with the forced on Civil War tie ins. And once Olivetti is dropped. I just don't like the art very much.

I think the art is the best part of this comic.

Please. That panel where he kills the two supervillians in issue 2? Pornstar Mustaches and tounges hanging out? Its just bad. Not technically wrong, but bad choices.

The art isn't that bad. It's not fantastic, but I like a lot of it. My main problem is the storyline. Cap and Frank doing that whole 'male bonding' thing was stupid.

Re: Punisher War Journal series discussion *Spoilers*

One question from War Journal 3:

The scene with Cap training Marines (including Castle) for missions in Vietnam.. how could that happen?

As far as i know Cap was still frozen in the 60s and 70s when the Vietnam War happened so how could he have trained US troops during that day?

Though cool that Cap says he was an Army Ranger.. nice little side info i didn't know.

Re: Punisher War Journal series discussion *Spoilers*

I believe Frank mentions in that issue that it wasn't the same guy in the Cap costume.

In fact, I know he does. He says something like "It couldn't have been the same guy in the suit, but that doesn't matter."

Re: Punisher War Journal series discussion *Spoilers*

Which brings me back to my main point; this is not Punisher MAX, therefor it sucks.

Exactly.

I like the writer on this, and I really like the artist, but it's not the Punisher.

Frank Castle shouldn't be spitting out action hero lines, and he definitely shouldn't be tossing around Spider-Man style banter. He should be the terrifying face of vengeance. It just doesn't fit.

We don't need a "toned down" Punisher book, because the whole point of the character is that he's not toned down. Cranking down the violence and grittiness destroys what's great about the character in the first place.

Re: Punisher War Journal series discussion *Spoilers*

The first post-CW Journal was alright. The art was standard solid Deodato work. And suprisingly enough....Frank's not even in the issue until the last page. It's not even narrated by him. Its narrated by a villain.

The whole issue is about a bunch of third/fourth-string villains getting together at Stilt-Man's wake (in a bar no less). They all get drunk and began to tell stories of the old days when being a villain was fun and they got respect. Even Stilt-Man's widow joins in on the fun.

Spiderman shows up....tells Prowler to go home and then leaves.

Then all the villains start to get sick. Turns out the bartender was The Punisher (which was actually pretty obvious when you stopped and thought about it) and he poisoned all the bad guys. Not enough to kill 'em....but to slow 'em down.

He then sets off a bomb in the bar and blows the villains up.

End of issue.

Solid......but in the end---this book isn't really needed.

Re: Punisher War Journal series discussion *Spoilers*

Quick question. Is Pun MAX part of or not part of 616 continuity? Because I keep hearing different.

Re: Punisher War Journal series discussion *Spoilers*

how long do you guys think The Shocker and The Rhino will stay dead?

and whats the deal with Armadillo is he or is he not one of the "Rangers" texas's super-team (Texas Ranger's? where's Walker?), and isn't he supposed to be in M.O.D.O.K.'s 11?

man this book trounces around continuity worse than Black Panther
