...which completely screws up any possibility of LL 2-1 being placeable... The only thing I can think of is skipping 1-3/4 by using the world 2 warp pipe in 1-2, which leads to the parallel universe, then after LL 2-1 you go back to SMB, starting from 2-1. Ending at LL 2-1 because VS. implies those lost levels take place directly after some of the different levels.

I might abandon using the start/end castles as placements, TBH.

Also, since Did Somebody Call a Plumber? ends in a very clearly not 1-1 level, and it being Mario-Maker-esque, I think I'll put LL 1-1 to 1-3 before SMB 1-1
I don't think DSCAP is ACTUALLY set in between Mario Bros and SMB. I think it's just meant to represent that event. It's mostly likely set in the present day of Mario Maker as a recreation of Mario's adventure.

I think the Mario Maker level building technology was probably based off of the Maker Matic Dr Crygor creates in Warioware so any Mario Maker games probably go sometime after that

Uhhh... All of Lost Levels is meant to be after SMB1, the plot it Bowser taking peach to a parallel world it seems.
The only official information we have on LL is that it's a parallel universe, and it being in F.L.U.D.D.'s database meaning it is, in fact, the same characters, going to a different universe. The Lost Levels directly takes levels from VS. Super Mario Bros., heavily implying that is the rough order of the levels between the two games.

I personally see the official levels as actually happening, the only reason they're "made by Coursebot" is because that's just how they implemented Coursebot into the game.
Btw this probably goes during Yoshi's Island, after the final boss but before the ending, at least that's my assumption and I've seen other people say it before
I understand the reasoning for both, however since Touch & Go is essentially an extended version of the Yoshi's Island intro, I've placed it before.
Btw this game has multiple levels with names. The names are how many meters up on the building it is. I think you could include that here I think it would be neat
I'm not naming levels for games that repeat infinitely. Unless you want Wrecking Crew to have 100 entries, each being "Phase X"...

Wario's Woods
Both the NES and SNES versions should be here because they have different bosses. The story is the same but it just continues into each other. NES ends with Toad popping a Wario balloon and Wario running away iirc. So SNES can continue after that deeper into the woods where it ends with Toad destroying Wario's castle

Hmmm.. that's reasonable I suppose, I feel like FLUDDs database listing it as separate implies it a separate adventure that happened later but sure

Yeah but Coursebot actually exists in-universe according to Maker 2

Fair

I think you can just include the levels before it started repeating. The repetition is obviously for gameplay purposes. The story of DK Arcade is obviously meant to be over when Mario makes DK fall in the 4th level, the repetition is just going over the same story multiple times for gameplay purposes

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, "Glass Joe"
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, "Von Kaiser"
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, "Piston Honda" 1
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, "Don Flamenco" 1
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, "King Hippo"
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, "Great Tiger"
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, "Bald Bull" 1
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, "Piston Honda" 2
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, "Soda Popinski"

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, "Mr. Sandman"
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, "Super Macho Man"
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, "Iron Mike: Mike Tyson"
Doesn't this happen across different circuits? You should label which parts are set during which boxing circuit mode (btw the game probably occurs over the span of March since newspapers are printed the day after a story usually I think so April 1st would be the day after when they could print on it that Mac was the winner. So basically have most of the game labeled as March then put the ending and label it as April 1st

Super Mario Bros., 8-4
スーパーマリオブラザーズ2, 8-1 [parallel universe]
When you add the 2nd quest from SMB1 you should put it between these 2 parts here. Since regular 8-4 ends with Peach telling Mario about the 2nd quest he needs to go on, so he presumably goes on that one immediately, then when that is over is probably when Lost Levels 8-1 starts

Again, I'm going to be adding all reissues anyway, regardless of if they actually differ from the original or not. Though I'm only including them on the detailed if they're unique enough.
Yeah but Coursebot actually exists in-universe according to Maker 2
Yes, but they only serve as a gameplay mechanic. Regardless, I'll be having DSCAP there because that's the point in time it represents (much like how ports that slightly change the story are not truly retconning, instead adding to the story as represented by slight changed - see my Luigi U analogy)

If I did it for DK Arcade, I'd have to do it for every infinitely repeating game that has specific levels... and yes every Wrecking Crew phase is different, I checked.

Yeah, I probably should specify the circuits. The Punch-Out!! franchise is quite consistent with roughly how much passes between/during games, but not consistent with dates itself... Mike Tyson is a year younger than he should be, newspaper dates are all over the place, I'm just sticking with what seems most consistent. I'll go over dates again though, if March is more consistent I'll do that

There's a 2nd quest? I guess it would make sense putting that between the two World 8s, since it gives Bowser time to recapture Peach (otherwise why would Mario go to the parallel world again - Bowser is not shown as recapturing Peach right away)

I'd be fine with that personally, wrecking crew and I think the OG Mario Bros are the only ones with that many unique levels. I saw how you had Wrecking Crew with all the levels originally before you changed it back and It looked good to me even on a small screen like mobile

Yeah, I think for the Mike thing he could have just been born earlier in this universe or something.

My thing with the newspaper thing is they're made every morning so I don't think they'd have enough time to print one about Mac's victory the same day it happened, so presumably March 31st is when it actually happened

Yeah I mentioned it, it's the levels that you can play after beating the game, it replaced all Goombas with Buzzy Beetles

Mario Bros.
Btw Mario Bros has to happen in 1983. Dr Luigi has 30th anniversary balloons in the background for Luigi's first appearance in Mario Bros, and Dr Luigi is meant to be set in the Year of Luigi (2013) so that'd put the original Mario Bros (and SMB by extension since they happen back to back) in 1983

Is there an official name for the Hard Mode/Second Quest? The wiki seems to refer to it as Hard Mode, but they don't have anything cited for it

You've mentioned this already, I don't remember quite what I said but I did some research for it and decided to keep it where it is I think

Unless it was before I moved Mario Bros. to directly before Super Mario Bros., though I don't remember if I moved MB forwards or SMB backwards.

Why? It's meant to be set during the Year of Luigi and many games released around that same time mention the year of Luigi, some by name like Starlow mentioning it in either Dream Team or Paper Jam (forgot which)

From what I understand there's nothing say SMB can't happen in 1983 yet. While Dr Luigi pretty directly implies that Mario Bros had to happen 30 years prior

Alright I've done some thinking about my Mario timeline and I think I've ended up coming to similar conclusions to the layout of this timeline. I've decided the 30th birthday balloons in Dr Luigi could be a 4th wall break? Like for example banjo mentions it's been 10 years since he's been created in N&B. But obviously he wasn't just born in the original Banjo game, so I think to the characters of these adjacent universes including Mario's they mentally have 2 Birthdays, one for their actual birth and the 2nd being their IRL creation year that they know about through the 4th wall. This allows Luigi to be "30" in Dr Luigi without actually being. The 30 just refers to it being 30 years since the events of his debut, Mario Bros Arcade. And if we go with Palutena in Smash saying Mario was born in 1981 that would put Donkey Kong Arcade in 1981 by that logic. Then if we use the Mario is 24/25 thing to gauge his actual age, that would put Yoshi's Island in either 1956/1957 which is what you have already as well. This would put Mario at military eligible in 1974/1975 for the events of Bombs Away, while not actually the Vietnam War presumably due to presumably happening on Mario's world it's still based on it visually so it would presumably be intended to take place around the same time frame.

So yeah basically everything works. If you want to have a linear timeline with the Earth then that works too now. Bowser seems a bit older in 1961 in SimCity than he should be but we don't really know how Koopa aging works really. Plus it could be Bowser from the future since he comes to the past in other Yoshi's Island era games, anything is possible really.
^
There is no reason to assume the Year of Luigi as a whole isn't a 4th wall break, since there's no in-universe reason to celebrate that anniversary (Luigi has done other heroic things before SMB)

I mean.... Not really? He only worked at like the bottling plant and cement factory with Mario. Not really heroic lol.

Plus, so many games released around that time (and set in close proximity to each other) have a heavy focus on Luigi in some way so it really feels like the Year of Luigi is meant to be an in-universe thing

Honestly I don't even see the reason why Dr Luigi has to happen next to the original Dr Mario on Gameboy tbh. There's other Dr Mario games released before Dr Luigi that take place later in the timeline, like Miracle Cure happens after Bowser's Inside Story for example, Dr Luigi doesn't have to happen near the OG DM just because it's similar

The Yoshi's Island games, and Partners in Time.
I know technically Partners in Time is future Luigi but that's arguably a more significant event than Super Mario Bros., especially when Mario gets most of the limelight for said events. It would at the very least be the Year of the Mario Bros., though more likely just the Year of Mario

The Year of Luigi was an external thing that got referenced in games during that time. If other games released not in that year, but set in that year, referenced the Year of Luigi, I'd consider moving it, but since it's only for games made in that year it's clearly an external event

Yeah but in conjunction with the other stuff like not all Dr Mario games taking place in the same timeframe I think it's something to move.

Like, iirc one of the later Dr Mario games said "flu season is back again" or something along those lines. So I really doubt Dr Luigi is meant to be set *that* early in the timeline tbh

I personally see it as a New Super Luigi U situation. If it could be any, I'd still put it at Dr Mario since it's the earliest it could take place in

Alright. I guess in this case maybe you could say the balloons are Luigi's 30th birthday, putting the game about 5 or 6 years after Donkey Kong? So 1987? Mario in the first Dr Mario does say it's been a few years that he's been on crazy adventures for.

Also btw, on the subject of Dr Mario, Dr Mario Online Rx is a separate event from the OG Dr Mario, the wiiware description mentions "Mario donning his stethoscope once again to battle viruses" implying this is a separate event awhile after the original. Also this one has more cutscenes too I think(?)

Yeah, I need to add the other Dr Mario games since the person who made the video I based this on grouped the majority of them together as ports (since they're all pretty much just reissues of the first one)
