Superhero Hype! message board member 'Advanced Dark' talked to Ray Stevenson via e-mail at Ray-Stevenson.com about playing the new Frank Castle in Lionsgate's The Punisher: Welcome Back Frank, to be directed by Lexi Alexander. Here is what the actor said about taking on the role:

Although i am still very much in the embrionic stages of developing and discovering FRANK CASTLE's character; what i can say about my approach so far is that I dont wish for anyone to walk out of the theatre wanting to 'be' FRANK CASTLE - Let me explain, I would be mortified if, for any reason, some kid at high school wanted to reach out and right the wrongs of bullying or rejection or isolation by deciding to "tool up" and take out the bad guys ! It is my full intention to have FRANK in such a dark place and do such violence on those beyond redemption that you should feel glad that there is someone who lives in the dark so we may live in the light. (and you cant wait to see what hell he brings to those targeted by him) My training program is the most comprehensive i have ever undertaken and hopefully we will bring all his skills to bear - and then some! Sorry it is a bit sketchy at this stage but we are driving forward and will stay true to the essence of THE PUNISHER!

Is it just me or from his description even more with the "you should feel glad that there is someone who lives in the dark so we may live in the light" sentence is this looking up?

Sounds to me that this guy (who I assumed would suck as Punisher) actually totally gets the charracter , More so than a lot of people who play comic book charracters.

This could be a very very good thing. I'm not looking forward to this again , He seems on the right page and must of read the script and if his version matches that script (which It should) It sounds to me that this could be nearly perfect.

Meh.

I would've been happy with just Punisher2. But it's whatever.

I'm mostly excited to see some promo pics of Stevenson as Castle. I remember when the first one was announced and we learned that Jane was gonna play the lead.........I, like many others, was like "WTF?".

But then I saw Jane as Castle............I was incredibly happy. And those Bradstreet movie posters were just buttah!

I would've preferred "War Journal" over "War Zone".

War Zone sounds like any other generic action film, or worse a bad 90s computer game.

War Journal is cooler, because then you can frame the narrative around Castle's thoughts and play on the irony of a cold-blooded vigilante being an introspective fellow who chronicles his thoughts.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is in negotiations with actors Dominic West ("300," "The Wire") to portray antagonist Jigsaw and Wayne Knight ("3rd Rock from the Sun," "Seinfeld") as supporting character Microchip.

The Official Keram Malicki-Sanchez Site reports that Keram Malicki Sanchez has signed on to play "Ink" in Punisher: War Zone.

Whoever that is.

Ink was part of Nicky Cavella's crew in the first Punisher max arc, he was the weird guy who didn't talk much, he got his name when he jammed a pen through a guy's eye. I wonder if Pittsy will be the movie.
