So I read #1.

It's pretty ****ty. I liked the caveman stuff. And that was it.

Main because it's not "Final Crisis #1" but rather "The DC Universe #567" and I've not read the last 100 issues of that particular title.

Oh - and
J'onn appears in three panels. Seems like the only reason you'd care is if you read loads of other comics because there's no reason to care just from reading this issue. Welcome to shock kills. Fan favourites without franchises please say your goodbyes. Superman and Batman will be handing out tissues made of dollar bills.

Rubbish.

Final Crisis (SPOILERS!)

So after having read the first issue I have one question; WHAT. THE. HELL! I know that Countdown stunk but is it not canon anymore?

The Trinity wondering who killed Orion:
Darkseid did! In a GIANT fight on Earth for crying out loud! And you were there!

They also speculate that the New Gods/Bad Gods are on Earth:
Superman! You were attending the last fight of the Gods. THEY ARE DEAD!

Nix Uotan got sentenced by the other Monitors for letting his Earth die:
Uuuuum, wasn't he with the Atom, Donna, Forager and Kyle? And wasn't THEY the ones who would monitor the Monitors? What the hell happened with that!?

...and that is just what I can remember for the moment.

I love how Bass commandeered this thread. Awesome.

I'm picking it up in the next 30 min.

Re: Final Crisis (SPOILERS!)

I have no idea what happened cause like Bass said, I haven't read DC for the last century.

DC readers will probably like it though.

Re: Final Crisis (SPOILERS!)

It was... alright. Some of it was great (the Anthro stuff and the GL bits) and some of it was really weird (the Monitor stuff, which I don't get at all). The rest of the issue lies somewhere in between. Who was the guy at the end? I thought it was Steel because he was black and was looking at his hands (he's still supposed to be covered in metal, right?), but he doesn't seem important enough. I presume it's someone in a new body, either one of the New Gods, or... J'onn.

Also, J'onn died quicker than I thought he would. Maybe he's not really dead.

The art was great though.

We're either outside of America or we're downloading it.

YOUSE GUUUUUUYS!!!!!!

I don't believe it can be as bad as you're all saying.

edit: Okay, on second thought, I can believe it. I just read Morrison's JLA run and it wasn't all that great. But I want it to be good. It's my first big event since I was a wee child.

It was as exhilerating an ordeal as 300.

As you can see Proj, DC readers implode upon reading all its continuity problems.

Aw. Suddenly you are but, "wee" years old in my mind.

More importantly - I loved Morrison's JLA run. I re-read some of it just a couple of days ago and it was still really cool.

Re: Final Crisis (SPOILERS!)

Actually I said that, not Project.

And I read JLA by Morrison and thought it was really good

The black guy at the end was the exiled monitor I think.

Oh, Houdey. You and Proj are but two sides of the same coin.

Re: Final Crisis (SPOILERS!)

I thought it was good, I think it will get better.

The Libra parts were the best part.

Martian Manhunter's death isn't really a shock kill. It's been hinted since the beginning.

It was a pretty good idea to kill a major hero right there to convince the others that this is something different.

It is also a DC Universe Event, you have to be familiar with the universe and with anything like this, no matter how accessible they try to make it.

There was really nothing you have to read in advance to understand the plot in this.

And I'm glad they are ignoring Countdown, it helps me do it.

Aaaand the meaningless death count begins.

I mean really it has become cliché at this point.

Anyway, i call 70.

Re: Final Crisis (SPOILERS!)

that guy with the funny name said:

Who cares? Besides, Final Crisis 1 was in the bag before Countdown ever finished. From what I've heard of issue 1, we can already begin to see that the writers on Countdown dropped the ball on setting up a transition to Final Crisis.

More importantly - I loved Morrison's JLA run. I re-read some of it just a couple of days ago and it was still really cool.

See, I liked parts of it. I thought Rock of Ages was fun, but nothing spectacular. I really liked a lot of the premises behind some of the stories. Connecting djinn to the Fifth Dimension was brilliant, but just panned out as a pretty typical superhero story. Similarly, I really liked the citadel at the edge of creation - just too good, but it left me underwhelmed when it actually played out. Mageddon's a great villain, though. DC One Million, OTOH, was exactly what a superhero crossover should be, and what has me excited about Final Crisis. Well, that and the idea of the DC Universe big-wigs (but not the small-wigs!) squaring off against their respective gods. Batman vs. the embodiment of sadism, in particular, should be a laugh-a-minute.

As for the Martian Manhunter death? Morrison's been going on and on since the beginning that there's a whole lot more to it than just the character dying. Whether the character twist will live up to expectations is another question entirely, but we know there's something more going on.

When I pick up this issue tomorrow, I'll give you all my opinion on it. And from that point on, it will be law in these parts.

But... the way it's treated in the pages... J'onn could've been VIBE. I mean, he's just brought in and killed, then at the end, some heroes say they're upset. It could've been anyone. The only reason it matters at all is because it's J'onn and it's out of the blue. If it wasn't J'onn no one would care. That's why it's shock. Instead of spending some of the issue creating or showcasing a character to make us care, Morrison just kills off a character someone else has been writing because he can. :/

Re: Final Crisis (SPOILERS!)

I hardly doubt J'onn died, simply because you stab a shapeshifter in the chest doesn't mean he's dead.

And pyro tranqs? Seriously?

Re: Final Crisis (SPOILERS!)

I really don't understand what the big fuss is about. I enjoyed it a great deal. Countdown was **** in my opinion and if you're letting that book get in the way of enjoying Final Crisis, you got a problem.
