Re: Final Crisis (SPOILERS!)
that guy with the funny name said:
The Trinity wondering who killed Orion:
Darkseid did! In a GIANT fight on Earth for crying out loud! And you were there!
They also speculate that the New Gods/Bad Gods are on Earth:
Superman! You were attending the last fight of the Gods. THEY ARE DEAD!
Nix Uotan got sentenced by the other Monitors for letting his Earth die:
Uuuuum, wasn't he with the Atom, Donna, Forager and Kyle? And wasn't THEY the ones who would monitor the Monitors? What the hell happened with that!?
Who cares? Besides, Final Crisis 1 was in the bag before Countdown ever finished. From what I've heard of issue 1, we can already begin to see that the writers on Countdown dropped the ball on setting up a transition to Final Crisis.
More importantly - I loved Morrison's JLA run. I re-read some of it just a couple of days ago and it was still really cool.
See, I liked parts of it. I thought Rock of Ages was fun, but nothing spectacular. I really liked a lot of the premises behind some of the stories. Connecting djinn to the Fifth Dimension was brilliant, but just panned out as a pretty typical superhero story. Similarly, I really liked the citadel at the edge of creation - just too good, but it left me underwhelmed when it actually played out. Mageddon's a great villain, though. DC One Million, OTOH, was exactly what a superhero crossover should be, and what has me excited about Final Crisis. Well, that and the idea of the DC Universe big-wigs (but not the small-wigs!) squaring off against their respective gods. Batman vs. the embodiment of sadism, in particular, should be a laugh-a-minute.
As for the Martian Manhunter death? Morrison's been going on and on since the beginning that there's a whole lot more to it than just the character dying. Whether the character twist will live up to expectations is another question entirely, but we know there's something more going on.
When I pick up this issue tomorrow, I'll give you all my opinion on it. And from that point on,
it will be law in these parts.
