Punisher: War Zone (Spoilers)

Re: Punisher: War Zone

Ray Stevenson would make a better Asgardian than he does The Punisher... Meh. Probably won't see this in theaters. Too much good stuff to see.

Re: Punisher: War Zone

Sorry about that.

Re: Punisher: War Zone

Ehh...

The thing that annoyed me the most was the 'comic-book-come-to-life' lighting all over the place. It didn't work in the Joel Schumacher Batman movies and it's not going to work here.

Also, the skull is too faded.

Re: Punisher: War Zone

I saw the trailer to this at Wanted. It looked completely underwhelming.

Re: Punisher: War Zone

Why is Jigsaw called Billy Russoti instead of Billy Russo?

And why is this only 87 minutes long? The Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie was a minute shorter!

Better question: Who is going to see this?

Re: Punisher: War Zone

87 minutes means it's succinct. Means it's not bloated. Means it might be honest. (Why am I talking like Rorschach?)

On that front, cool. Also, Ray Stevenson is a terrific choice (I want to get my hands around God...).

Problems I have is this: 1) Visually, it looks like it was made in the 90s trying to ride the wave of the first Burton Batman. I would prefer it if this was trying to ride the wave of THE DARK KNIGHT. It looks very poor, visually. Very, very dated. Hasn't come out, and it already looks generic and boring. 2) The plot seems to make all the mistakes that kept Punisher so poor - has to have a large comic book threat (terrorists with biological weapons) and outrageous action scenes (spinning around a chandelier or lighting pyrotechnics at a meal). Punisher doesn't need that. Or outrageous body armour.

It looks fake and old. So... not good so far at all. And I think that's because it's going to be a PG-13 movie when really, if you want it to be astounding, make it R and just let it go the **** loose.

But... THE INCREDIBLE HULK didn't suck. And neither did IRON MAN. Marvel's on a roll, and THE INCRDDIBLE HULK looked just as bad gearing up. So this may yet still prove to be one of those movies where the advertising almost killed a pretty good film.

I'm doing my best to remain optimistic. I'd really like to enjoy this one.

Re: Punisher: War Zone

When they fire the director a few months before the release, I tend to lose all faith in a film.

Re: Punisher: War Zone

The film is shot, done, they are simply in editing phases, and yet they've fired Lexi Alexander from any further involvement. Now while it could be better than what it would have been had they not fired her, it certainly says a lot about Marvel's faith in them. They could get a great editor, but if what's been filmed is ****, it's not going to matter how they put it all together.

I'll see it on DVD. Maybe.

Christ.

Maybe Marvel thinks a movie needs to have behind-the-scenes hassle in order to be successful. See THE INCREDIBLE HULK...
