Describe to me, as if I were a child, what you enjoy about this arc. Please?

Me?

I liked the first issue. I liked the death of Creeper and Megan. I liked Molly punching Punisher. That's it.

Chase falling off a skyscraper and getting caught by Old Lace (and Molly using that as a rationalization of maybe how they could have gotten away) was pretty awesome too.

I liked the first issue. I liked the death of Creeper and Megan. I liked Molly punching Punisher. That's it.

Well, to me, I really enjoy the aspect of the Old versus the New. The most obvious thing is the Old Minoru "torturing" Nico, for whatever reason. We also have the impact of Koralina's and Xavier's homosexual relationship.

The death scene, the you know, the one with that tiny man and his friend. I thought that was wonderfully done.

The implication of two possible new members of the party is nice...even if it will unbalance the boy/girl ratio even more.

So, I've got just one question...

Why is it going to take 4 months for the next issue of Runaways to hit newsstands? The last one came out in February. I know it doesn't take a little less than half a year for them to write, pencil, and ink 20 or so pages.

So, what the heck is going on?

They have to plan for marketing the new creative team.

I heard from the woman who colors the book that Whedon turned his stuff in on time, and she either implied or said outright (I forget) that the reason for the delays were that not only did Ryan have to figure out his own versions of the Runaways, but he had to design over a dozen new characters. I admit they look fantastic, but figuring out how each and every one of them looks and how they should be colored, then drawing a comic with entirely unfamiliar characters and not having a reference for most of them? It's not worth the ridiculous delays.

I can't help but feel a little sorry for Ryan. It was Marvel who put him (a relatively inexperienced artist) on such a work intensive book.

So, I decided to check out the Runways catalog page on Marvel, to see when in May the next issue was supposed to come out.

And it got changed to June. Almost a whole month after the May date (I know it was in the 20's).

I dislike Time Travel stories, generally, and so I didn't even like the premise of this arc.
Whedon wrote the kids well. I loved his Molly, and Nico kicked all the *** she deserved in the final issue. I was pleased.
I don't like the new member. She seems added just so that Whedon can have a mark on the team.

Meh.

Ryan's art was perfect- I'm actually kind of nervous about Ramos' art. But if it gets us a constant Runaways month in and out, written by a great teen writer...it's totally worth it. I still love this book as much as I ever have.

Favorite Marvel Title.

It's funny you say you don't like time travel stories. I was going to write myself a story that was based on true events where I went back in time to stop myself from introducing you to Runaways.

There is also a What If back up that continues throughout all five What Ifs where we answer the question, "What If the Runaways became the Young Avengers?" You will like.

This arc stank. The art for the next volume (they need another volume?) looks really horrible.

I actually forgot it was still being printed before the last issue came out. That's the most telling critique I can give to Whedon's run on the book. 6 issues that were so mediocre, forgettable, and ridiculously late that I forgot one of my favorite series existed. Honestly, it would have been better for the Runaways to go on hiatus like Young Avengers did.

I was really excited when he took over the book. Then the delays started and the storyline sputtered and went nowhere slowly. I still like Whedon as a writer, but I will NEVER be that happy to see his name attached to a series again.

That said, I really want to give Moore a chance. And although I find the preview art that I've seen from Ramos to be hideous, I didn't hate his work on X-Men. So I'm just going to pretend Joss never touched my beloved Runaways, ignore the crappy new character he's added to the team, and try to enjoy these characters that I used to adore.

Completely agreed. It felt simultaneously stretched out for too long and incredibly rushed. Lilly and Victor were exactly like Romeo and Juliet--silly, shallow teenagers who think they're in love but have no depth to their relationship besides mutual physical attraction and many, many reasons why they can't (and probably shouldn't) be together.

That's the part of his story that I really don't get. Am I supposed to care about Lilly? Am I supposed to care that some random girl fell in love with everyone's favorite talking toaster? Because I don't.

Joss' run is incredibly poorly conceived. He was only on for 6 issues and rather than developing the characters or telling a fun self-contained story featuring those characters he spent all 6 issues developing an entire cast of new characters that no one cares about and who, in all likelihood, will never be seen again. Joss didn't tell a Runaways story. He told an Olde Tyme Marvel Universe story that happened to have the Runaways in it. In six issues the only things he did for the actual cast of the Runaways was break up a couple that BKV had just put together, give Chase his gauntlets back, and add a crappy character with crappy powers that will have to be dumped by later writers.

If he had these turn of the century characters in his head and he just had to get them out, that's fine. He should have just done it as its own series. Lord knows Marvel will print just about anything that a big name writer pitches them. Instead he made Runaways fans suffer through the worst arc this series has ever seen.
