Re: Ultimate Spider-Man #118 discussion [spoilers]

Its an opinion though amd there isn't a right or wrong opinion.

So everyone is right.

I disagree. I feel that "This book is ****" is a reasoned judgment. It can't be proven, but it can be supported. One reasoned judgment can be superior to another. Thus, it's worth debating.

"I like this book" is a pure opinion.

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man #118 discussion [spoilers]

I love that there is absolutely nothing anyone can say that Random can't turn around into something about the book being ruined.

And the great thing is that by the sounds of it he's totally right.

It's a gift

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man #118 discussion [spoilers]

It's a gift

That would be a cool gift if not for the whole ignoring-the-dynamic-of-what-i-was-trying-to-say thing. But, I digress.

Good quote, Mulesandmud.

And I know you joined half a year ago, but I don't think I said... WELCOME! :D

I wasn't ignoring it, but I didn't go into as much detail as I should. That idea of this school (or anything really) becoming a hot spot for super heroes and paparazzi is good, but I just think its a totally wrong direction for the book, because it really ruins more of this book. Earlier in the series Bendis did the whole dual identity with Peter great, but the more **** like what's happening in this arc happens the more of all that great stuff is ruined

Yeah but it still is the best spidey book being released. Even with McNiven on Amazing I still think that USM tops it. I think Immonen's art is really great but I only entered comics when Hobgoblin came out so people reading since the absolute beginning with Bagley, I can understand how people can dislike the transition. Bendis does seem to enter super heroes into peters everyday life but he may go somewhere with it. Jessica Drew is still in the picture and it may surface that she is going to try and out him.

That may be more, the other books sucking, but I have to disagree. I personally can't stand this book anymore

I never really had a problem with Bagley though his art did suffer towards the end

He hasn't gone anywhere with almost anything if you think about it

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man #118 discussion [spoilers]

this coming arc is starting to look a little too X-Tastic

and everyone remembers the last time this book got X-Tastic....yeah Deadpool

don't blame me if i'm wary of this

Immonen's art is terrific. I think I prefer Amazing to USM at the moment, but for a while, I wasn't liking any Spidey books save for the terrific SPIDER-MAN LOVES MARY JANE (sniff... where is it?)

It's good to see you posting Interpol! 17 posts in a year! Step it up! :P

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man #118 discussion [spoilers]

Ya know if Firestar is Liz it kinda reminds me of Mutant-X #18 where the girl from Fury's anti-mutant squad finds out she's a mutant with fire-powers.

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man #118 discussion [spoilers]

If you say so. I'd just think Torch and Iceman would understand Peter wouldn't like them showing up at his school and talking to him as it might mess up his secret identity. :?

Thats actually covered in a somewhat comedic way. Peter keeps mentioning them ruining his secret identity when they both show up. It was mildly amusing, but also a huge plot hole for the reasons you listed: at any high school in Anytown USA, people would notice anyone continually encountering famous or infamous super heros and villains on school property on a regular basis. Basically, pretty much everyone but Kong at the school must be morons not to have put two and two together.

Anyway, I did enjoy the issue. It was a lot of fun, pretty cool banter. I was entertained, and that was all I was looking for from this arc, and for the most part this comic...its not a deep read or anything, just fun--especially with Immonen's artwork. This arc is just a light-hearted break between the more "tragic" story arcs (the last arc, "Death of a Goblin" and the supposed upcoming "War of the Symbiotes" arc--God that name is ****ing dreadful).

I'm liking it. I give it a 4/5.

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man #118 discussion [spoilers]

"In a somewhat comedic way"?

Please.

It was hysterical! I laughed my *** off when Iceman wouldn't shut up in front of Peter.

Absolutely brilliant issue. All my problems with it were dispelled because Bendis and Immonen just sold the ****ing thing. The characters were great, the interplay was fun - top notch work. I am so impressed and pleased.

There is, sadly, one thing that pissed me off. Whoever the hell is in charge of the previews made a big mistake. I knew Liz was "Firestar" (or whatever) from the previews. So the whole issue I'm waiting for Firestar to show up (as it were) and when she does... to be continued.

Really, REALLY, annoying.

BUT! That ain't Bendis' fault. No sir. This here is a homerun. Good on him.

Well Bass is the nexus of all things, its stands a chance some of those things are bad

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man #118 discussion [spoilers]

WHY do we have to put the review in with the preview. I'll have to sift through the pages now to find someone who posted a synopsis..

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man #118 discussion [spoilers]

Too annoy you.

In all honesty, it was done to streamline the site more. So there isn't multiple threads about the same topic.

Subjective, not an absolute, etc.

Otherwise, completely agree. One of the best USM issues in a loooooong time. Bendis is back in stride, and Immonen's artwork is a huge boon to the series. USM is back.

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man #118 discussion [spoilers]

Great Book! Hate Immonens' art tho. He draws some damn ugly faces. He is quite possibly the only comic artist who does not draw hot chicks.

FINALLY someone who doesn't like his art. I hate it for the same reason but everyone here praises it and I can't understand why.

Never, ever, had a problem with Bagely.

But I love Immonen. He's terrific. His work is very emotive and energetic.

I agree, it was just continuous entertainment.

I loved the character pages, especially Kong. I love the idea of the random superheros all at once. And the them all discussing Fury. I love that he is the default subject that all them have in common.

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man #118 discussion [spoilers]

This issue was awesome. The scene where all the heroes show up at the school is my absolute favorite in Ultimate history.

The whole thing ruled.

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man #118 discussion [spoilers]

I thought this book was everything that made me fall in love with USM, but i have to agree, I could not stand the faces, just too weird...
